Question Who Will Play Perry White On "Smallville?"

I just read on Moviehole that the folks at "Smallville" are on the lookout for a big name actor to play Daily Planet editor Perry White this season. The character isn't going to be a regular cast member, more of a cameo actually, but the door will be open for future appearances.

My question is, who do you think should play Mr. White?

Let's not go crazy here folks, I'm sure DeNiro will be busy, so think hard...

I think it would be really cool if they cast someone with ties to another Superman franchise.

How about Gene Hackman?

I think that Gene Hackman would be good playing AN editor, but I'm not sure he'd be good playing Perry White, unless he can be considerably more "stuffy" than most of his characters are, with the "Don't call me chief" and everything.

How about John Mahoney from "Frasier?"

you know, he could do that. i really liked him in his role in the movie "say anything". if he could carry that role to be perry white.... i think it would work.

My thinking is that since this series is a "prequel" to Superman, they might be looking for a younger actor to play Perry White.

Someone say, in his mid to late 40's.

William H. Macy?

Leslie Nielson is too old for the part now but he might have been top notch for it a few years back.

Well folks our short lived search is over.

I just read that comic actor Michael McKeon, star of numerous Christopher Guest films, not to mention his stint as Lenny on "Laverne And Shirley" will be playing Perry White this season.

I guess he got the gig because of a connection or two with the show. I didn't know he was married to Annette O' Toole!
