this is really the first time I'm seeing the show all the way from the beginning (even though I missed the very first episode. rrr!).
When they first started airing it from the beginning on Nick a few months ago, I wasn't really watching it regularly at first. And from looking at the episode guide, it looks like the only two season 1 episodes that I had seen before were "Around The World in Eighty Years", and the one that's going to be on tonight- "There Once Was a girl From Nantucket", which I remember watching it and thinking that that woman in the episode looked sooo familiar, and then in the closing credits, I found out it was Megan Mullally- she plays Karen on "Will & Grace"! lol! What a difference between that character she played on Wings, and Karen from W&G! haha.

But anyway, I went off on a tangent there...

I'm really enjoying season 1 so far (even though it's almost over... that's the shortest first season of a tv show that i've ever heard of.). I know some people said that they didn't really like the first season... I think it's cool to go back to the beginning after seeing the whole rest of the series until the end. I like how you can notice that the actors are still sort of developing their characters. and the sound of the show is a lot different- you can hear an echo, like on a stage (well, in a way it sort of is a stage, but you can't hear that echo in later seasons). The audience even sounds different. lol!
But anyway, I'm enjoying these really early episodes.
Oh, and I didn't realize before how early on in the series the sexual tension between Joe and Helen has been there. Well, I knew it was there kind of early on- in the first episode of the second season, you know at the end of the episode when they kissed.. And there were only 6 episodes before that in the 1st season... but yeah. It's been there since the very very beginning- it wasn't something that kind of wasn't there, and then it started developing over the course of a whole season or something. it was always there.

anyway, I have a question!
I know that Joe and Brian hadn't spoken to each other in 6 years before Brian came back to Nantucket... but from watching "Return to Nantucket" episodes, it sounds like he was with Carol for that whole time up until 6 months prior. ? For some reason I was always under the impression that Brian ran off with Carol, and shortly after that it ended up not working out, and then Brian and Joe just still didn't talk for all that time.
But is that right that Brian and Carol were actually together for 6 years?

Yes, Brian and Carol were together for 6 years...she had only recently run off with another man, and Brian was still in "Maybe she'll come back" mode during the first few episodes....but I suspect that Carol was just about as faithful to Brian as Bunny Mather was to Lowell during that 6 years!

To answer your other question Krista, THIS cycle is the first time that I've seen the first two episodes. I started watching "Wings" during the middle of the opening marathon (one of my "channel-surfing" stumblings again!) and thought "Hey, this is a GOOD show!".

I started watching "Wings" on NICK regularly with the "Return To Nantucket" two-parter during the first NICK cycle....and I've been hopelessly HOOKED ever since!

Hey Krista,

It's my understanding that Carol & Brian were together for almost 6 years. I don't know if it was specifically discussed except for in "Return to Nantucket," but in "The Taming of the Shrew" when Brian goes to therapy he goes on about what they used to do on their anniversaries, how he misses her at Christmas, etc. So that suggests that were married for awhile.

ITA about the sexual tension with Helen & Joe. Like when Joe says, "I don't think about her that way," you can tell he's not quite sure that's really true.

Regarding the "G-rated" earlier seasons we were talking about -- it really stands out to me now... like all that with Carol, etc. Other than little hints like "You both know what you're missing" nothing about sex was said. I can't imagine a "clean" show like that being written in the last 2 seasons.

One thing I notice about most of the Season 1 eps is that they're funny, but not all-the-way-through funny like I think the ones from Season 2/3 were. For example, I laughed so hard when Helen was in Carol's hotel room. But when Lowell thought Joe & Brian were dating... ughh. That was clunker. He knows they're brothers. That was too dopey even for Lowell.

I've noticed a real difference in the early and later episodes of "Wings"...at least how I look at it....

I can watch the episodes from the first 6 seasons over and over again...I consider them true "classics", like the best "I Love Lucy" or "Honeymooners" episodes.

However, I just can't imagine myself watching even the BEST episodes from Seasons 7 and 8 over and over again. I may watch them once, say to myself, "Well, THAT was a funny one!" and end it there....I just don't consider those later ones "Classic Keepers".

Even though I'm attempting to videotape and keep every single "Wings" episode in it's proper order (and I hope that NICK doesn't screw me up on THAT), I know that my videos of the earlier shows will get a LOT more use than the videos of the final seasons.

Does anyone else find the earlier shows a lot more watchable in repeated viewings than the later ones?

o cool, pilotguy- yeah, it took me a little longer than that to actually get into the show. i saw a few random episodes during the marathon ("Murder She Roast", "Blackout Buggins", "Hosed", and a couple of others), but I wasn't really over impressed with he show. I thought it was kinda funny, and I watched it a couple of times after the marathon if I was around, but I didn't get into it until I saw the little spark that Joe and Helen had between them. I remember it was when I saw the "Puppetmaster" episode. I thought the episode itself was kinda lame, but then at the end, when the two of them were alone in the airport, and they kissed, I was like, "woa. these two are totally into each other.." and it really got me interested to keep watching to see what happened with the two of them. and then of course the more I watched the show, the more I loved all the characters, and eventually, I was just hooked on the whole show itself!

yeah wingshock- I know what you mean about Joe and Helen. in that episode when Helen wanted Joe to see her in the dress she wore to the audition, and she wanted him to tell her if he thought she looked sexy, and he got all nervous and was like, "i don't know if you look sexy! I don't think of you that way. we're buddies." lol yeah right! yeah, I was actually going to mention that!! i have all the episodes from seasons 3-8 (the ones that Nick has shown) on tape, and almost all of the episodes from seasons 3 through 6 I've watched at least twice. But there were only about 3 episodes from seasons 7 and 8 that I've watched more than once. I didn't dislike seasons 7 and 8, but you're right- the best episodes of those seasons, I say they were good, but only 2 or 3 of those, I've actually watched more than once.

I like the season one episodes too. I think the show really started to take off in season two though. I think they should have had Antonio from the beginning.

I Started watching Regularly Just a few weeks ago so this is my first time seeing the first Season, But its quite good. Weird without Antonio though.

Yes, I like that one too....Brian's a riot when he stands on that catwalk and "works the strings" like he's Gepetto....

I could be wrong, but wasn't that the episode where Joe and Helen have a VERY steamy kiss and Helen says that it didn't effect her at all....but after Joe leaves she dumps a glass of ice water down her blouse? That's PRIME "Wings" material!

Pilotguy - that's the one. There were so many funny moments in that ep...

Joe: What about all the pilots who are happily married?
Helen: I know both of them, and they're cheating on their wives.

After Helen describes her perfect man, Joe says, "That's great, Helen - but Kermit's a frog."

Lowell & the walkie talkie: "Who is Sheldon DeVayne?" and "Faye. Can you see Roy from where you are?"

Joe: "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't beat the hell out of you."
Brian: "I'm on your medical plan?"

When Brian says Joe is "A tad boring but of good yankee stock, what about him?" And Joe says (trying not to sound too eager) "Yeah, what about me?"

After the steamy kiss Joe asks Helen if that was better - the way she says, "Much better,"

Joe's acting all cool & then he falls over the chairs!!! Ha ha ha!

Lowell sings "Moon River" and says, "Hey, who'd have thought there'd be two purple El Caminos." ha ha ha.

Boy, I love that ep!

hehe i might like it more now that I'm into the show. I saw that one at the very beginning when I first started watching, and that happens to me a lot with TV shows- it sometimes i have to see a bunch of episodes until i'm really into the show, and then i go back and see the first epiosdes that i had seen, and think they're so funny, when the first time, i didn't think so.

yeaah! that's the one!
but it was more like, after the kiss, Joe is the one who kind of acts all cool and just says "like that?" and Helen has this look on her face and says "that was much better." the way she says it is really funny. haha, and then Joe says, "ok, see you tomorrow." and he goes to leave, but trips over chairs, falls on top of them and rolls off onto the floor. hahaha!!

and then after he leaves, Helen pours a glass of ice water down her shirt.
hehe I love that whole scene.

I felt "All For One and Two for Helen" was a great way to wrap up season one. Plus, it really set up the Joe and Helen story line. You knew they had an attraction for each other and a spark. I love this episode, lots of classic Brian stuff such as......

Helen: I think it's time that you and I teach Joe a lesson.

Brian: Good idea Helen. Lets you and I teach him a lesson until we're just too exhausted to teach him anymore.
