Sad 2nd Anniversary of Dana's death

It seems that no one cares that it is going to be 2 years since Dana's death this Wednesday. Even the web site maintained by Dana's son and ex-husband, "Butterflies and Rainbows" has been canceled, I imagine through non-payment of fees. It exacerbates the sadness I feel for Dana when I see people ignoring this pretty young girl's death. What can we do? Wouldn't it be cool to throw a rememberance party next year in L.A.? Maybe make it an annual event? Tell me what you think?

Sad

Like I said, no one cares. I get two other people replying; one to offer up a one line agreement, the other to correct the day of the week from Wednesday to Tuesday. I knew it was the eighth of May, just made an error. Even the Gary Coleman imposter got 14 replies. Very sad, and how about her family cancelling the "Butterflies and Rainbows" page? What ever happened to "Dana's Cafe" or "Dana's place?" What does that tell you about people that were supposed to be her champions, let alone the general public who are her fans?

I hope you are not trying to test my sincerity, as volumes of information about this are available on this web site. Todd Fuller did an excellent job compiling it. I would suggest reading the entire story yourself on this site and others, but to paraphrase the story I would say that Dana had a turbulent life with many episodes of attempted suicide and she finally succeeded. That's not a popular concept in these web sites where people love her, but I feel the truth. People want to find a villain when someone they love dies, and don't want it to be the victim themselves. There's more solace in pointing the finger at another party, especially a piece of crap like Robert Menchaca, when someone like Dana dies. And when you consider the day before she died, she appeared on Howard Stern's talk show to be chastised and called a druggie by old friends that obviously contributed to her self-demise. Anyway, Dana overdosed on painkillers, there was no sign of forcible ingestion, and I mean she overdosed big time, so there could have been no mistaken overdosing here. I don't think it was planned. I don't think Howard Stern's show was a farewell tour and she killed herself hours later to punctuate it. I think the events that transpired on that show accumulated during her drive back to Oklahoma and she had to face her boyfriend's family, and was probably humiliated. To conjecture, maybe Dana and piece of crap had a fight, or whatever else. I think it was a spontaneous decision to kill herself, however, she did keep inordinate amounts of painkillers on hand. I would guess she always had a stash of drugs strong enough to do the job just in case, just as an international spy would carry cyanide to kill himself in the event of necessity. Either way it's sad, but what's more sad is the way society forgets about and goes on. Even her family has evidently dismissed the situation. Her website was up for less than a year. They were going to sell her last song and all that good stuff, and then dropped off the face of the earth. Did the song deal fall through? Was it a bad recording? Was no one willing to market it? Who knows, but they discontinued her website as if it were too financially burdening. And whatever happened to Dana's Place or Dana's Cafe? That idea was just pacification to get through their grief, which is fine, but let's label it for what it is. Rest in peace Dana I love you and haven't forgotten you.

Believe me, Dana is NOT forgotten!
As a friend of hers I had to just send this short note to say that she was truly a great person if you knew her well! It is very sad that in the last few years of her too short life she encountered some bad judgement and a poor choice in her "friends" (and I say that lightly).
I knew Dana when she was doing the show, and she was ALWAYS available to lend her support to any worthy cause! She gave many hours of her time to help others, and always had a smile on her face! (One that I will NEVER forget!!) Rest in Peace Dana....We miss you!

First of all, hello to all boardmembers. I am a big DS fan and this topic really made me want to get registered for this message board. Hey EdsB5s, I totally agree with you with having some kind of special something in honor of Dana. I grew up watching DS and what I fell in love with, was the cast. Now that it's on N@N, it brings back a whole lot of good memories. But what still makes me watch DS now, is because of Dana. As a teenager growing up, I always had a big crush on her. I'm sure other guys felt the same way. I think this was a previous topic, but when N@N first brought it back on t.v., it was very depressing watching the show b/c of her death and the other troubles with the cast. Seeing her happy on the show, and just seeing her face period, sometimes makes sad. But that doesn't stop me from watching the show. I know that she would like to be remembered for all the positive things she did in her life which was this great t.v. show. I recently watched the E! true hollywood story of DS and was going to tape it b/c I haven't seen it in a long time. What was suppose to be really interesting became somewhat upseting.Instead of taping it I got more depressed. By the time they got to Dana's part I turned the t.v. off. It was just too sad. Anyways sorry for writing too much. I just wanted to give my two cents and say that people do care. And I'm sure Dana still lives in all our hearts.

Well said Curtis, thanks for writting in bro. maybe next year we can do something in this forum. I think it would be cool to hold an event in L.A. or somewhere to celebrate her life, on the day of her tragic death. To macabre? Just a fleeting thought. Ed.

no no, Ed man... i wasn't correcting you. i said yesterday on the ninth. i was agreeing with you. i knew it was the anniversary. i hope you didn't take that with disrespect. i think it's horrible the way the media dumped on her. especially in the internet. you can't run a search for information about her without filth in the results. i don't care if the television or any other source says different, all who said it were right when they say she never deserved any of the garbage slung at her. and i don't need to have known her to confirm it. i'm sure you feel the same.

OK, I misunderstood you Scizow, sorry. We're obviously on the same page now. Could you handle being the roomate of Dana's or other people who called in to trash Dana the day before she died? Even if Dana screwed her roommate over, as the callers contend, that wouldn't justify having a part in her death. You can't lie to yourself, and the people who called in know in their hearts that if they didn't call, or called in with some compassion that Dana probably would have lived another day. The ultimate may have been inevitable, but not on their conscience.

If you believe in Freud's "Id, Ego, Superego" theory, then you know that young people have less of a conscience than older people, or at least they are less compelled to be driven by their conscience. I believe (with a grain of salt) in Freud's theory as a general statement not applicable to all, so with that, the callers conscience will aggravate with time.
