I heard that this was such a good movie with Sam as the victim of rape. Has anybody seen it?

Yes Brian,
I have seen "A Case of Rape", which was made only two years after "Bewitched", finished. It is a powerful, no holds barred look at the plight of that woman who is raped and made to feel like a criminial herself. I believe Elizabeth received another Emmy nomination for this role. This film is light years away from Samantha and shows Elizabeth's great talent for both drama and comedy. Simon |

Liz was brilliant in it & there is no Doubt that if not for the Politics of the Emmy's ,she would have won a justly deserved Honor. When asked to drop the second more explicit Rape scene from the movie,Liz refused & sent the Producers a list of Actresses that could replace her if they insisted on cutting the scene, what a Pro she was. I remember seeing a rerun of it sometime in the 80's, but that was the last and only time I saw it. All I remember is how weird it was to see Liz play a role in which she was the victim.

that's eexactly thee impression I got when I saw it, wheen it originally aired. At the time I was "rediscovering" the early episodes of "Bewitched" through reruns.
I also remember that NBC (the network that made it) origiannely ran a "disclaimer" (warning) right before it started. I wondered at the time, why'd they air it at 9:00 at night, then? |

First non-Bewitched role of Liz's (besides the Twilight Zone appearance and The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell) I ever saw and I was pretty shocked to see what a great dramatic actress she was. Now, years later, having seen almost all of her movies and a great deal of her television appearances, I still feel it holds up as one of her best performances. The movie itself is not exactly my cup of tea, but I've watched it and rewatched it several times just for Liz's performance.

I've never seen this one, but I'm not sure if I want to. The subject matter is so disturbing. I do agree that Liz was an underrated dramatic actress, which I saw in full effect in the Twilight Zone episode "Two", Lizzie Borden, and The Awakening Land.

I found the paperback novel based on the movie in the library. Once I finish it, I'll post my thoughts here!

I'd like to because I'm a big Liz fan, but I HATE movies like this. I won't even watch the Lifetime Channel.

I seen it when it first aired. It was very dramatic and it's still embedded in my mind. One of those things you can't forget.

I just caught the movie (it's up on YouTube). Liz was absolutely stunning - not once did I think of her as Samantha. As a woman, the movie outraged me, sickened me and surprised me - which I think was exactly the way the movie was supposed to be. What a different world we live in now than in 1974. Without giving too much away, today some people would be sued for sexual harrassment for their remarks, and people like Gloria Allred would be right at the forefront.
Liz was nominated for an Emmy for her stellar performance but lost to Cicely Tyson (The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman). The next year, Liz lost the Emmy (she was nominated for Lizzie Borden) to Katharine Hepburn (Love Among the Ruins). Liz's final Emmy nomination was for her work in the pioneer miniseries The Awakening Land (1978), and this time the victor was Meryl Streep for Holocaust. Totally ironic - those three losses were all to Oscar winners/nominees!! |
