Question Did this show get better with age?

I personally think it did. The first abbreviated season (spring 1984) had some great moments, especially for Jane Curtin who was really allowed to shine, but the next 2 seasons just seemed rather, blah, to me...the show picked back up from 1986-1988, but then when they all moved and Allie Lowell became Allie Barsky, it turned rather, blah, again...what does everyone think? Not that there weren't some gems from 84-86, it just seemed better the last few seasons...(and so did the hairdos!)

The early years are my favorite, not sure why, think it was just because I was young at the time too and I really associated with the kids on the show (Emma, Jenny, Chip).

I really didn't like the last couple of seasons at all (when Allie got married and they moved from the old apt). Also Emma leaving made the show not the same to me.

Yeah, that's true, but I'm totally opposite. I just sort of find the first few seasons boring and the last few seasons great, including when they moved to the new apt...they were some great moments fropm 86-89

Kate & Allie as Lucy & Ethel and Mary & Rhoda...
Allie going crazy in the hospital...
Allie's job hunt...
The "sweatshop" sequence..."Ingehactefluvin?"
The exploding chip bag...

The list goes on...

Allison Smith's hair during the last couple of years was soooo 1980's. Everytime I see it I am reminded of almost every girl I went to high school with.

Susan St. James hair got much better over the year. It went from very short to semi-long and straight.

The first three seasons were very good. The concept ran out of ideas very quick. Two things that killed the show:
1) Susan St. James' preganancy. After returning to the show after she gave birth there was a big difference in her acting. Her energy was not quite the same. It seems like she did not want to be there. Now she is not in show business she preferred to raise her family.
2) Allie's marriage to Bob and continuing the show. The final season of the show was very lame. Allie's marriage would have served well as a series finale. It got radically away from the original concept when they married Allie off.
