Was this show really filmed in Georgia or somewhere down south?

The show was filmed at the old Desilu studios like so many of my favorite shows during that time. The exterior shots were probably filmed at various mountain locations around LA. This was the 60's remember, I doubt that the cast went on location to the real South at all when it could be duplicated closeby much cheaper.

Mount Airy , N.C.
The Andy Griffith Show The star's hometown was the model for the fictional Mayberry. Though the comedy was filmed in California, a stroll through Mount Airy is like touring the set: There's Floyd's Barber Shop (which changed its name to match the show), Lamm's Drug Store, the Snappy Lunch, the Spring Street sign, and Rockford and Haymore streets. The town, near the Virginia border, also celebrates Mayberry Days with a fair held the last weekend of September |

Here are two links to sites with lots of info on 40 Acres and Franklin Canyon Lake. There are other sites with photos as well.

it was filmed at Desilu Studios, which is now part of Paramount Entertainment. the opening of it was filmed at a lake outside of Los Angeles. "TAGS" was one of the shows that Desilu rented out space to. The studio also rented space to "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.", "The Dick Van Dyke show", "The real McCoys" "Make Room for Daddy"/"The Danny Thomas show", "Gunsmoke", "Star Trek" (for the first season-then it was bought out by Paramount Pictures, and became Paramount Entertainment)
In the 70s, and 80s, it became the home of "Taxi" & "Cheers" and in the 90s it became the home of "Frasier" and the other "Star Trek" series. |

all those lake fishing scenes looked to be california terrain to me. always thought that was where it was filmed.
with all the guest stars, it would have helped on transportation expenses with most probably close by to LA. |

Looking for a spot to discuss the 40 Acres set, interesting and unusual shots, such as this one, below. Look at the floor above the barber shop and grocery, the side of the building looks about three feet from front to back, something I don't expect the cameramen of TAGS would ever allowed to be shown.
Anyone else have any odd screen shots like this? I saw the back of Andy's house somewhere recently with a facade sort of like a back porch but makes the house look barely large enough to even contain his living room... must have been for episodes like "Aunt Bea's broken rose", which takes place mostly in the back yard.
