Default Audrey 2?

Is anyone else here but me a fan of the musical 'Little Shop of Horrors'?

JERRY: Yes. Yes I am. Master of my domain. But I will tell you this: I am going over to (Gestures to the nudist) her apartment, and I'm tellin' her to put those shades down!
KRAMER: Woah, woah, woah. What-what did you just say?
JERRY: I can't take it anymore! She's driving me crazy! I can't sleep, I can't leave the house, and I' here, I'm climbin' the walls. Meanwhile, I'm dating a virgin, I'm in this contest - something's gotta give!

Yeh! Yesterday I got my copy of the 'alternate ending' of Little Shop of Horrors on VHS. I'd waited like a month, got it off of ebay so i thought I'd been conned.

Anyway- it's a great ending, but they couldn't find the colour footage fully edited. It looks like a B-Movie when it's not fully edited, in colour and with sound effects (especially when the shop falls down and it doesn't make any sound, and when 100's of buildings are being wrecked and their hardly any sound but the musical number)- but all in all it's still good. I kind of prefer this ending now- but they'd need to get it in colour, fully edited.

The producer supposedly recalled the DVD because he had a colour version, and was upset this rough-cut ending was released, but still Warner Bros haven't released the ending in colour. Maybe the producers refusing to hand it over- cos apparently he's always wanted a theatrical re-release. I hope that happends- if not he should just give in and release a new dvd for the fans.

I used to have the musical version on tape. My favorite character was the dentist, played by Steve Martin. I didn't really like Ellen Greene's character. Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops was great as the voice of the plant, Audrey 2. I've also seen a little bit of the 1960s version directed by Roger Corman on a public domain channel months ago. That version had a very young Jack Nicholson in it as a patient who loves pain. The film was put together and filmed in just two days.

I've got Roger Corman's movie on DVD as well- it's hilarious, but both films are verrry different- just the whole man-eating plant theme was the same. Pity they didn't keep the mother and the woman who's family members keep dying in the musical version.

I thought Steve Martin was probably the best character, there weren't many characters in the movie though. And I thought Ellen Greene was fantastic as well. Some hilarious lines- at first Bill Murray made me a bit uncomfortable when he did the scene with Steve Martin.

Also- in the new ending Jim Belushi's (Belushi's sitcom According to Jim cracks me up) character is replaced by Paul Dooley (I don't know why he isn't in alot of comedy films- his face and whole act is good in the stuff I've seen him in- more of a character actor) and they had to lose the line (sadly) where his character enters and only Seymor and Audrey are standing and he says 'Which one of you is Seymor Krelborne'- the new ending is also funny cos the people are rushing to buy mini-plants like they're Furby's or Buzz Lightyears- and they keep focusing on a cool little dog escaping all of the plants by running like s**t!
