They showed the 'My Nanny Gets Your Goat' Episode (1967) last night featuring the one-time guesting of Hermione Baddely (later Mrs. Naugatuck of 'Maude' and sister to Angela Baddely (Mrs. Bridges of 'Upstairs/Downstairs). Obviously, they were trying to capitalize on the 'My Fair Lady' gamut with her sounding a bit like Eliza Doolittle but I wonder if they were trying her out to see if she could be Tabitha's permanent nanny on account of worrying about Marion Lorne's aging? She was OK but I disliked this episode because she was too 'cutesy' and I especially disliked seeing Darren literally recoil at Endora's threat to zap a zipper to his mouth! That's the first (and thankfully ONLY) time I can recall Darren being fearful of Endora (instead of annoyed, exasperated, frustrated, infuriated,etc)- and it didn't help to have Elspeth shield him like. .well, a nanny .
Does anyone here think Elspeth would have been a better nanny than Esmeralda was? I somehow doubt it because even with an accent, cutesy and agreeable just isn't funny. |

I didn't like Elspeth too much, although I happen to like the particular episode a lot. I don't know. She just really got on my nerves. Naturally, I can recall a million times where Esmerelda got on my nerves, too, but I still liked her anyway. I dunno if I could have dealt with that accent, though. Also, she didn't seem to have any distinctive character traits that would have made her likable. She was just... all right for one episode, but I couldn't stand her if she actually stuck around.
