Today I was in my neighborhood market. I was next in line, and behind me was this frail elderly woman...at least 80. She had one item, a small package of lamb chops. She was fiddling in her purse, nervous about her purchase I believe. She wasn't a bag lady or anything, but in my mind, I could tell she probably just got her Social Security check since it's the first of the month. She probably treats herself once a month. This is the story that was in my mind anyway.
We exchanged smiles, and it became my turn to purchase my groceries. I didn't plan it, yet it just shot out of my mouth, almost involuntary, "Can I buy those for you?" She looked so surprised and said, "Dear, that's nice but you don't have to." I told her that it would make my day if she allowed me to. She then handed them to me. It was a quiet transaction. I made sure of that by keeping my voice low, but the cashier and the people behind the woman were looking and smiling. The elderly woman's surprise drew the attention. I thought applause would break out. We left the register, and she was so overwhelmed by the gesture that she could barely compose herself. I then got to hear all about her hip replacement surgery last year....lol. I offered her a ride home but she said she lived around the corner. When I finally broke away from her, I had the best feeling while walking to my car...and all this for $4.40, the cost of her lamb chops. So, if you have a random act of kindness story, let's hear it. It doesn't have to involve money. It can be helping an animal in distress, an extra special driving courtesy on the road, donating clothes to the needy or letting someone cut in front of you in line in a store. Just something you did for a stranger that made you feel real good.

Aww thats sweet Janice!
I have a bunch of little stories, but I cant remember any. I just try my best to always smile at people and be as nice to them as possible. Even if they just smile back, it puts me in a better mood. I get a lot of compliments from work for being nice, but thats about it lol. One guy always says the same thing: "Your generosity is only exceeded by your kindness." Oh wait! I just remembered the story. Way back, like a year or less ago, I was working. Anyways, an old couple were looking for flashlights, but they were already checked out. I told them I knew where they were and came back with one of each kind. The wife was so surprised because I went and got them- it is my job! LOl. She kept thanking me and then she told me that she was going to put me in her prayers that night. |

That's so great. You know, I drive up through Michigan a lot to visit my friend in Sault St Marie. To do that you have to cross the Mackinac Bridge - which costs about $3. One day, I made it there and was ready to hand over the money when the woman smiled and said that the car in front of me had paid! People I'd never met, never seen, just wanted to do something nice. After driving for four hours, it was really appreciated. I made a point of paying for the car behind me on the way back.

Aw, that's really nice what you did for that old lady
Anyway, the only thing that comes to mind is this one time in kindergarten...it was our first fire drill, so all the kids being only five thought the world was coming to an end lol. So I decided, ah what the heck...if I'm gonna die, I might as well do it being nice. So I held the door for everyone because the doors in the hallway leading to the rest of the hallway got shut somehow. I was about to pee my pants, but it made me feel happy lol. I always do try to be nice to people and do nice things for them, though...even now that I'm not five

Last week I went to a restaurant and as I was going in I saw someone behind me on crutches. She was by herself so I opened the doors for her. She told me that she is getting really good at opening doors but it is so much nicer when someone does it for you.
