im doing a report on how the view of the family has changed and how it affects society. it would be great if anyone could talk about how the nuclear family has changed in their experience.

My view hasn't changed a bit. I believed in the nuclear family when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s, and I do now too. Sadly, though, fewer households are a nuclear family, I presume, and it is no longer always presented as the standard. I hope the situation reverses itself.

Hopefully, more people will give you their views on this, and perhaps some will say more than I did.

Since the times of LITB, there have been a lot of forces in society at work to break up the "traditional" nuclear family. All one has to do is look at the most recent news of the Episcopal Church to see the tip of those forces at work. Add to that, both parents working full time jobs and even the better traditional families have a difficulty finding time with their children. Lastly, I feel there's been an eroding of the "strong" father figure, that has been replaces by an excessive amount of nurturing instead of discipline. The results are easy to see from the High School classrooms to the graying of the lines of right and wrong. In addition, since parents have less time to see their kids, government has had the opportunity to jump in the game as to what codes of conduct are acceptable in society today rather than for the children to grow up on their parents values.

Just my two cents worth.........................
