Verbal humor or physical (slapstick) humor? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I prefer comedies that use a lot of verbal humor over slapstick. I only like slapstick of a sitcom uses it sparingly. Excessive slapstick and jokes about body parts and bodily functions are things I can definitely do without

I really like verbal humor........the slapstick variety can be overused a lot and then become extremely boring.

I prefer comedies that have a mixure of both, but if I were to only one, my favorite it would be verbal comedy. I like physical comedies, but when they get to the point where there is nothing but that (usually when the writers run out of ideas), it can appear to be very tiresome.

I like both. Best examples of slapstick are LaVerne and Shirley and Perfect Strangers.
For verbal humor I go with Mama's Family, Newhart, The Bob Newhart Show and Roseanne.

I rarely laugh at slapstick humor so I like verbal humor better.

Exactly, and another show I'd add for a great example of great physical comedy is Three's Company. I'm not real big on physical comedy, but he was so good at it!

I chose a mixture of the two.

I'm not sure but I think everyone is kind of missing the point. Except someone mentioned Three's Company. John Ritter's physical antics are what I would call top notch physical slapstick. On Seinfeld the verbal humor is great but the physical slapstick, which is what Kramer is half about, was also great.
Then there is your 'run-of-the-mill' slapstick. The mishaps that 'The Tool Guy' has on whatever the name of that show is gets old before it starts. The quality of the slapstick and the quantity of it are key. Really, the same could be said of verbal comedy. Gratuitous jokes are just as bad in the humor category as gratuitous or simplistically boring slapstick.
Honestly, I didn't mean to go on like that.

The mixture of both is one of the great things about "NewsRadio." Most of the characters gave us the verbal humor, whereas Andy Dick provided the slapstick humor.
