Default Sanford and Son Exterior Location

Does anyone know the actual address of the exterior shot used for the opening of Sanford and Son? You know, the front of the junk yard. I have often wondered if it really existed, or if it was just a studio backlot.

the scene would not match up. If you see the front of the house in the opening it would appear that this is the front and not the backdoor leading into the kitchen. The truck fits into the side yard but its obviously no room for the truck, the yard and julios yard. I think its the studio

The exterior shot looks to be in a neighborhood. Even if it doesn't match up to the interior set's layout, I would love to know where the actual building is located

The area looks a lot like Culver City near Los Angeles.
There are televison and movie studios in Culver City, i.e. Sony and such

Default Sanford and son Exterior Location

THE EXTERIOR OF SANFORD AND SON WAS FILMED IN TOLUCA LAKE, CA. MAGNOLIA BLVD IN THE AREA OF CARTWRIGHT AND DENNY AVES. IT WAS ACTUALLY A PAWN SHOP, I THINK IT WAS "BOBS HOCK SHOP" AT THE TIME.

The same junkyard exterior was also used in the "Alley Cat" episode (S03E03) of Emergency! So if you're curious what the back of it really looked like, the scene with the old man with his foot caught in a beartrap was filmed there.

yes, I have watched the opening sequence closely and there IS no room for at least Julio's yard. Also, look at the shot across the street when Lamont drives up. Remember when Fred thought he shot Mr. Goldstein? He supposedly lived across the street. It appears to be a grocery store instead of a house or apartment. Maybe Goldstein lived upstairs!

Answer:

Sanford And Son was filmed at NBC Studio, 3000 W. Alameda Ave., Burbank, CA. On stage 4 and stage 1.

This is the real answer

Default Sanford Storefront Today

^ The original question was about the store front, not the interior filming. Eight years later, this question is answered.

10659 Magnolia Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601 (now Power Plumbing)

Watch Emergency! hulu.com/watch/36216/emergency-alley-cat (copy and paste into browser)

Go to 15:35 and watch as they pull up to Fred's Storefront, they pass an intersection, and a streetlight next to a power pole, then a vacant lot, then the store. The awning matches even to the second to last green trim being bent. Pay attention to the buildings in the background and then go to the address above in Google Earth. As you look around in street view, you'll see the stores across the street are still the same. Compare that to the opening credits of Sanford and Son and it falls into place.

As Lamont pulls in the driveway, you can see a sign in front of the house, to the right of the driveway and a power pole to the left of the driveway. Both are in the Google earth photo.

Yes, the opening scene of Sanford and Son was filmed on Magnolia Blvd. between Cartwright and Denny Avenues. 10659 Magnolia is the correct address. This location was an actual second-hand store called, "Joe's Junk Shop." There was a small store inside and a large yard area outside the rear of the building. The awning on the front of the building was part of the actual store. There was a driveway between the buildings where Lamont drove the truck. How do I know this? I grew up three blocks away on Willow Crest Ave. and watched them film the scene! The interiors and the yard scenes were filmed at the studio.
