Default Anybody Watch "Heartache Tonight" Yet?

This was part of last night's "Viewer Appreciation" block, and I thought that it was quite funny...a little far-fetched and silly, but funny!

Rose-Marie was just PERFECT as Roy's bruiser mother! Like past guest stars Debbie Reynolds and John Ritter, Rose-Marie fit right into the show and looked like she was having a ball being nasty to Roy, Joe and Helen.

And speaking of NASTY, where did Joe get that 8th season mouth of his? I know that Mother Biggins was a rude and pushy loudmouth, but the Joe Hackett of earlier seasons wouldn't have called her an "old gargoyle" and similar insulting names...but again, that WAS funny!

Is it just me, or did Joe develop sort of a "Becker"-type nastiness and sarcasm in the final seasons as compared to the "wholesome Boy Scout" Joe of the earlier seasons?

Anyway, any thoughts on this episode?

I definitely loved that episode! It was hilarious getting to see the inside of Roy's house for the first and only time... it was as tacky as you'd expect. The bug that Joe kept trying to squish that wouldn't die was funny. I also thought that Rose-Marie did a great job as Roy's mom. Poor Joe and Helen... they had a really rough night... especially Helen having to pretend she was Roy's fiance.

Besides the funny main plot about Roy's mother, we can't forget the funny side-plot about Brian and Casey home sick with bad colds....VERY funny stuff!

I know that several of you don't like Brian and Casey together as a romantic couple, but they're a riot playing off of each other in their comedy scenes together.

Sometimes Casey drives Brian NUTS, and he'll end up losing it and screaming at her....other times he'll just sit or stand there and give her a low-key, deadpan wisecrack...either way it's Brian in top form!
At least he didn't turn into a spineless wimp with Casey the way that he did with Alex!

Sorry about that, gang....It's late, I've had a hard day at work and I'm exhausted...and in reading my last message, I just realized that I used the word "funny" 3 times in the first sentence! That's not like me to over-use words....It's funny how that happened....OOPS, I did it AGAIN!

I just had a wild thought....Could you just imagine the fireworks if Roy's mother had met tough talk-show host Mary Pat Lee when Roy was dating HER? Talk about "Clash Of The Titans"!

(Actually, it might have gone OK....Roy's mother liked tough people with "moxy"...and Mary Pat Lee had enough "moxy" for five people!)

I loved Antonio's reaction in that "Let's Talk About Sex" episode when he found out that Roy and Mary Pat were dating: "But she's Mary Pat Lee, and you're....you're...ROY!"

Roy's mom and Mary Pat Lee... now that would've been an interesting combo.

I loved the sub-plot you mentioned about Brian and Casey being home sick with bad colds. I think that was the funniest scene that I've ever seen Casey in... she was so hilarious and looked so awful. Especially with those thermals on under her dress and Brian says, "you look like your smuggling tires."

Yeah, that was a funny episode...I didn't realize it was Rose Marie until the end, and the whole time I was thinking how familiar she was!

By the way, I'm not sure if anyone posted somewhere else about the "Raging Bull *&@!" episode, but I didn't see the end of it, and was wondering if anyone could tell me what ended up happening with the fight between Joe and Brian. Thanks!

As the fight started, Joe and Brian were dancing around and kind of measuring each other getting ready to land the big punch, and as they were doing that they started having flashbacks....Joe would look at Brian and suddenly see Brian as his 7 year old brother asking for help or advice, and the same thing was happening to Brian, he would look at Joe and then suddenly see him as his 10 year old brother helping him out.

Then the flashbacks progressed and Joe would see Brian telling him how proud he was to be his best man at his wedding, and Brian would see Joe telling him how happy he was that Brian had joined him at Sandpiper.

Then it cut back to the boxing match and Joe says to Brian "I love you man" and Brian says the same thing and they hug each other. Casey demands that somebody hit someone and when Antonio rushes into the ring he accidently gets punched and knocked to the ground.

I thought it was a clever use of flashbacks.....I always liked it when you saw Joe and Brian as kids.

Oh, and that was the last episode before the two-part finale, so that probably had something to do with the whole flashback thing. Thanks for filling me in, losthighway! Too bad I missed it...
