Ok i'm sorry this might seem kind of silly and shallow but right now I am pissed off and was wondering if it was just me!
I am the eldest out of three daughters I am 16 and my two sisters are 11, and 10. I have had to fight brutally hard for certain privelages, and in some cases for years... like let me give you an example... Most girls start Shaving now when they hit jr. high, right? I wasn't allowed to shave till like halfway through 7th grade...It sucked I felt like the only girl with hairy legs! I now understand my mother and her reasons and if I had a daughter (knock on wood lol) I probably wouldn't let her start shaving the second her overpriced shoes hit the middle school pavement. today I walk into the bathroom and my mother is SHAVING my two little sisters and to add insult to injury little cousin's legs!!!! I look at her like she's gone off the deep end...you people don't understand I had to beg, cry, plead, reason with this woman to let me do this for about 3 years and I wasn't even allowed to have a razor till I was 13 and half (I waxed). I look at her in amazement that she's actually doing this and all that comes out of my now wide open mouth is...."I resent you...." lol and she looks at me in this u are being way too dramatic face and has the audacity to say to me "That's the price of being born first".......?!?!!!?!?!?!?!? Like I ASKED to be born first...I just want equal treatment...sure my sisters get all the privelages handed to them when I had to work for them...but to do them especially that specific one before you let me.....sorry i am competely worked up about this. |

I don't see what the big deal is with young girls shaving their legs in the first place. What's the deal with mothers making their daughters wait?

In my family it was just the opposite. I am the youngest of five kids. My siblings all got their drivers licences at age 16. I had to wait till I was 17 because my mom said that the older kids weren't responsible at 16 and got into minor accidents and stuff and she didn't want to go through all that for a 5th time so she made me wait a whole year while all my friends were out driving. My brothers also bought mopeds when they were like 14,15 but I wasn't allowed to have one because my mom said they were dangerous. It was like I. ended up paying for their mistakesI can now understand her point about the drivers license but back then I just felt she was being unfair.

I'm the oldest, and I know exactly what you are talking about. In fact, at this very moment, I am baby-sitting my little brothers, again! And, for no pay. This is the 4th time this week! I have no life because of this! "Oh, and by the way, Kayla...you're watching them tonight." oh....ok. Thanks for the advance notice. Too bad if I have any plans, like seeing a play tonight, because we couldnt possibly do that!!! Ugh.
And....(Sorry, but this is just the thread i need right now) I'm turning 16 in a month and a half. I dont get a car...unlike a lot of people who do. I have to work for one. That's not so bad, but I know my parent are going to buy my brothers cars when they get older. Right now, my brother has about a million different smaller motor vehicles (i.e., dirtbike, moped, go-cart) and, while I love the dirtbike, Id rather have a CAR. Ugh...parents. |

I'm the oldest, but actually,as far as the way we're treated...everythings pretty much the same...except that my sister always did get away with a lot more...that's a classic, but it always happens
I mean, she's always driving me crazy in someway, and she just gets off with "Hey, don't do that" or something...it's like they think it's cute or something. I guess it's not like that ALL the time, but still...

Well, I have 3 younger sisters and each one got to do things that I didn't get to. I guess in a large family by the time the last kids grow up the rules get relaxed out of sheer frustration. My youngest brother who is # 7 got away with a lot of stuff that I or my older brother never got away with!

I'm the older of two daughters and I think being the oldest has both its good and bad things. It does suck when parents give ythe younger sibs an easier time and you're expected to be the responsible one, but try to think of it this way: You got to do it FIRST!
I found that helpful.
