i saw the pilot episode on tv land today and i was wondering why fonzie was not the main person starring on the show, it was ron howard. and then fonzie was only seen in a couple scenes in the episode and he nearly talked and he just shakes his head and his hair is messed up and he this brown jacket. where is his black leather jacket? .

I think originally the contrast was to be between Ritchie & the more worldly Potsie. Fonzie's popularity was not noticed until later on in the 1st season when there were more speaking roles. Compared to Fonz, both Rich & Potsie were pretty straight, of course. Season 3 is when one really notices Fonzie becoming more involved as a character.

Fonzie really doesn't come alive until Episode 40, "Fonzie Moves In."

Originally, Henry’s part was supposed to be very small—only a few appearances here and there. The star of the show was Ron Howard, Henry soon stole the scene as “Fonzie” though, and eventually became the star of the show. There was even talk at one point of renaming the show “Fonzie.” At first he didn't wear the black jacket because the executives at ABC thought it would make him look like a hood.

I think the first episodes are great. Kinda gives you a nice break from all the Fonzie Mania episodes when it all revolves around him. Fonzie is cool but I liked how Potsie and Richie were the stars, and Potsie wasnt so stupid
