Default John Goodman ????

Was John Goodman supposed to leave the show in the last season because I was watching an old SNL, and on Weekend Update, it said that he was leaving and then of course they made a joke about Roseanne.
What made him change his mind?? I know he wasn't really in the last season a lot though...but does anyone know?

He was actually supposed to leave the show at the end of the eigth season (tired of Roseannes hissy fits, it was rumoured, especially after the infamous break-down in season 8- the Halloween episode), but they got him to stay around in season 9, but only for half the episodes. Which explains why he spent most of the first half of the season with his "mom."

I was typing "Roseanne" into the EW.com search engine and up came a news article from 1995- the show's eigth season. On set, I think it was around the Halloween episode, Roseanne threw a huge temper tantrum and production of the show had to be shut down for the day. Fortunately for her, they stopped the cameras- can you imagine how much that would be worth?

But you would have never guess that from Roseanne on Leno tonight. She looked awesome! She wasn't as funny as I expected her to be, but it was great to see a refined version of her former self, calm, relaxed, repentant. I didn't know she divorced Ben Thomas either.

Here's the jist:

She may have a new baby, a new hubby, and a new nose, but don't worry: She's still the same old diva. On Oct. 17, TV's reigning tantrum queen threw a doozy: a two-hour screamfest that torpedoed staff morale and drove costar John Goodman to boycott the show for a day.

''Roseanne got up in front of everyone and was screaming and ranting, but mostly crying,'' says a source close to the show. Wags another insider: ''It was sort of a Norma Desmond speech [from Sunset Boulevard].'' Among Roseanne's gripes: She could trust no one; someone was hiding positive fan mail from her; and executive producer Eric Gilliland had inked a deal with Twentieth Century Fox behind her back. (Even though Gilliland was scheduled only to finish out this, the show's final year, Roseanne still wanted him fired. As of now, he's back on staff.) In the end, Roseanne threatened to quit her eight-year-old blue-collar sitcom.

Neither the actors nor the network would comment on the episode, but it's far from a secret. Someone had left a soundstage camera on, and it was feeding the tirade onto dozens of closed-circuit monitors on a CBS lot where Roseanne and other shows are shot. ''I'm sure a tape is available,'' says one source. ''It will be a real hot bootleg item.''

Dated November 2, 1995

it all seemed to play into the storyline for the last season....since he was supposed to have died from his heart attack in season 8....

I saw some of that confrontation, they had it on an E! True Hollywood Story special. It is the scene when they are at the table doing the seance and she's arguing with a production guy or the director or someone.

He said "I don't have that script"

and she said "I gave you the f@#%ing script when I was in my trailer"

Then they argue a bit but you can't understand what is being said. You could see Johnny Galecki was really uncomfortable and John Goodman looked like he wanted to strangle her. That's all they showed it lasted less than a minute.

also there was a story on ET at the time but the fight wasn't shown and it was about John Goodman storming off the set or something like that.

I don't think John really dislikes Roseanne though. Because when she did have her talk show. He was a guest on the Roseanne Reunion show. If he didn't like her he would never have came on the show.

Plus they say Roseanne never had any real agruments with her fellow actors. Is was mainly with the producers and writers.

Yeah I agree, I didn't mean to imply that he hated her, however they did admit on that same reunion show that they did have fights, not real serious ones though, but they happened. I'd say whatever happened has since been mended.

Although one thing I never got is the lack of reference to Lecy Goranson, I always heard they parted on good terms but Roseanne told that one story about her hair cut on the reunion show, and that was it and I have never heard talk about her when mentioning the show.

I have heard her talk about Tom more.

What story about the haircut?

Ok, guys since this is a John Goodman topic I just wanted to mention something you may or may not have heard about. As you know John did a short lived sitcom called "Normal Ohio" on Fox. Well, it looks like John will be back on television he does the voice to a primetime cartoon that NBC will be airing soon. He also will be starring in a sitcom on CBS in the 2004-2005 season. Congrats John.

I recently read in an interview with John Goodman that if Roseanne were to ever call him up for a show that he'd be there in a heart beat. So obviously, he and Roseanne never had any serious problems with eachother at all. As for the rest of the cast, I don't know. I REALLY want to see the Family Conner reunion!!!!!

I'm sure it was a heat of the moment thing that happened that seems less and less important in retrospect.

Also, Roseanne seems alot more centered and calm now than she did a decade ago.
