Does anyone know where Redd Foxx really was when they were saying he was in St Louis? Was it health problems? Thanks.

The official word was that Redd Foxx was sick, however i believe he was not really sick, but holding out for more money. The episodes were already written for him and had to be adapted slightly for Grady.

GRADY HAD NO OTHER TALENTS. FRED CAME FROM SHOWBIZ. HE STARTED OUT AS A NIGHTCLUB ACT REMEMBER. HE COULD SING AND DANCE.

I read Whitman Mayo's (Grady's) bio and he had a very interesting life. At one point he was a professional voleyball player in Mexico i believe.

Come on now, guys, do you REALLY think that the wild parsley episode would've been just as funny with Fred? It seemed to suit Grady perfectly...it wouldn't have been the same with Fred instead of Grady, for THAT PARTICULAR EPISODE, IMO...

redd foxx was a master at improv. of course it would've been funny with fred. Like the suitcase full of money. He would've been nervous and it would've made a great scene.

I think that was the time in the series when Redd Foxx demanded to paid more money because of the show's success. That's why he wasn't in some episodes.

And I do think an earlier poster is right. The episode about Wild Parsely was tailor-made for Grady. However, the show, overall, is quite a bit better with Fred.

you know fred had a thing for weed. he always blamed julio for smoking them funny lil cigarettes.
