Default Friends has always had racial diversity

I just realized how this show always had DIVERISTY.

Joey is Italian
Ross and Courtney Cox's character are Jewish.
What are the others?

Question Friends Diversity

Not really. We still don't know what ethnicity Phoebe or Chandler are.

Yeah, you can look at it that way. One of Ross' ex-girlfriend's was Asian (Julie). So yeah, Friends have had diversity.

As far as Joey being Italian, and Ross and Monica being Jewish...those aren't minorities in this country.

You don't need to have minorities to have diversity.

Chandler is non denominational which is very unique and diverse. But don't forget, diversity goes beyond religion and ethnicity. Each character acts very differently, has different values, and lives their lives differently. Monica is a control freak, Rachel is a working mother and a complusive shopper, Phoebe is easy-going and funny, Joey is an actor (nuff said), Chander is a buisness man, and Ross is a scientist/science geek.

The thing that bugs me is that the show takes place in NYC, which is filled with Puerto Ricans and Blacks among other races. But they hardly ever come in contact with any of these on the show. Yeah, I know it's TV but the producers shouldn't complain when the show comes under fire for not having enough diversity.

There are also no irish on the show, when there are more irish people in NYC than there are in Dublin.

It may not be diverse, but it's kinda realistic. Seriously, how often do rich white yuppies hang out with poor Puerto Ricans (no offense) or other minorities?

Lightbulb Diversity Question

Keep in mind the setting for this show is Manhattan. NYC as a whole is very "cliqueish" whereas races - black, white, PR, Hispanic, Asian, etc. - seem to "congregate" in certain areas or burroughs. When someone mentions terms like "Little Italy" or "Harlem" or the Bronx, you automatically associate those areas with a certain race or ethnicity. Not saying those areas are 100% black, hispanic or asian, but do you know what I mean? I don't know how to write this and not appear to be racist, which I am not.

Also, Paul Stevens (played by Bruce Willis) and his daughter Elizabeth (one of Ross's students that he dated) were both Irish.
