Default What significant games/players have you been seen? (baseball, football, hockey, etc)

I love sports, especially baseball. I have been to numerous ball games and I have seen some great stuff but no game has yet to top the June 26, 1999 game between the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies. An incident took place in the bottom of the 7th inning. Colorado pitcher Mike Dejean started arguing with umpire Tom Hallion and it soon escalated into a shouting match. Hallion ejected Dejean and then-manager Jim Leyland. Then Hallion ran and bumped a Colorado catcher. Several days later, in a rather controversial move, the National League suspended the umpire for his actions. I don't know if this had to do with the suspension but 22 umpires resigned in September that season.

Later that season I got to see the Texas Rangers come to town on July 10. Rafael Palmeiro and Juan Gonzalez hit home runs and Texas led the game 4-3 in the 9th inning. Eric Owens reached first on an infield single, scoring Quilvio Veras and advancing Damian Jackson to third. Damian Jackson came up and lined a groundball to the first baseman. Then the Rangers made a fatal mistake. Texas closer John Wetteland made an error and the Padres won 5-4.

Ten days later my father and my oldest sister took me to Anaheim to see the Padres take on the Angels. A rather bizarre play took place in the top of the 9th inning that helped the Padres to win. With runners on first and third, Anaheim pitcher Mark Petkovsek faked a throw to third and first but the ball came out of his hand and Carlos Baerga scored and San Diego won 2-1.

In another game that year on September 1, I got to see Sammy Sosa of the Cubs hit a home run that provided the only run of the game in Chicago's 1-0 victory.

In the only hockey game I have been to, while not significant, I got to see the Mighty Ducks take on the Phoenix Coyotes. The Ducks lost but I got to see Paul Kariya score.

Here is a list of great ballplayers I have seen:

Tony Gwynn
Trevor Hoffman
Nolan Ryan
Ken Griffey Jr.
John Wetteland (1996 World Series MVP as a Yankee)
Mo Vaughn
Juan Gonzalez
Ivan Rodriguez
Rafael Palmeiro
Vladimir Guerrerro
Sammy Sosa
Ichiro Suzuki
Shawn Green
Mark Grace
Gary Sheffield
Todd Helton

I love sports to especialy Football and Nascar!

I have been to 9 Nebraska football games 7 against Kansas St., 1 against Central Florida and 1 against Troy St..

In the game against Central Florida I got to see Daunte Culpepper play and he scored the first Touchdown of the game on a QB draw, but luckily my Hhuskers came back to win the game.

I have also been to a Kansas City Royals game when the played the Boston RedSox, Roger Clemens was still with Boston at the time and he pitched that night, and the Royals won the game so that was fun.

Some sports people I got to see are:

Tommie Frazier
Larrence Phillips, however we in Nebraska want to forget about him.
Scott Frost
Ahman Green
the late Brook Berringer
Daunte Culpepper
Micheal Bishop

and for baseball,

Roger Clemens
Jose Offerman
Mo Vaughn

there were more but these really stick in my mind of famous natinaly and localy I have seen in person.

i've been to....

Baseball:
Twins vs. D-Rays (@ Metrodome)
Got to see Wade Boggs, Fred McGriff, Jose Canseco play...that was cool

Brewers vs. Cardinals (@ County Stadium)
Got to see Daryl Kile pitch, R.I.P. Mark McGwire was injured at the time. These were the best seats I've had at a ball game before. I was in row 13, if i remember correctly.

Brewers vs. Royals (@ Miller Park)
First and only interleague game i've seen. Jermaine Dye was still a Royal, he hit a HR in this game.

Brewers vs. Braves (@ Miller Park)
Highest scoring game I went to, I think it was something like 15-1 Braves won. Wes Helms (playing for the Braves back then) hit 2 or 3 HR's, can't remember. But I was surprised because I never heard of the guy before.

Football:
Packers vs. Buccaneers (@ Lambeau)
This was on 11-25-95. Pack won 35-13. I will never forget this game, as it was my first ever Packer game (haven't been to one since). But, the highlight of this game was an Edgar Bennett TD reception... he made a diving catch along the sideline in front of me. Brett better play one more year (AT LEAST), I wanna see him play at least one more time and things aren't looking good for this year.

Basketball:
Not a big fan of the sport, but I would like to go to a Piston-Magic game sometime.

Hockey:
I just started getting into hockey this year. The Minnesota Wildare my team... I'm hoping to go to a Wild-Wings game this year.

*btw, football is my favorite sport, followed by hockey, then baseball, then basketball. i just can't watch baseball and basketball on the TV, especially basketball.
