Talking Willy Wonka casting dilemna?

Tim Burton is reported to be choosing between 2 people for the role of Willy Wonka- Christopher Walken and Michael Keaton. What's your oppinion on this all. I personally want neither of them to do the film, because Michael Keaton, I think- doesn't have the right look, and he seems better in laugh out loud, OTT comedy roles- which Willy Wonka isn't. And Christopher Walken(sp?) just looks far too frightening, and a bit old, to play Willy Wonka. In the book I know the descriptions a little different, but Walken seems like the type of guy that would be a nightmare villain for kids, not Willy Wonka- he just seems too stern.
It seems it could be a weakness for Burton that he always wants to work with many of the same people.

So- my vote- Neither of the two actors.

I agree. Both actors are not right for the part. I know Walken can sing and dance, but he's too old. Michael Keaton? No way. Burton was lucky he got away with casting him as Batman, but he's all wrong for Willy Wonka.

What about Mike Meyers?

Matthew Broderick has some Broadway experience, he might work out.

What about Johhny Depp?
He's done wonderful work with Burton before. I think he could pull it off.

Yikes, no to both choices. I can't see Keaton or Walken as Wonka. Just no way.

Here are some suggestions:

Johnny Depp (the ultimate freak player)
-oops TJL already mentioned this

Brad Pitt (kooks out well in 12 Monkeys)

Alan Rickman (plays good and bad great, he would work )

Oliver Platt (something boisterous about him)

Tom Hanks (too obvious, but can play anything, and lots of fun)

Benicio Del Toro (wild card, great actor, great presence)

Just thought I would bump this thread up to say that according to a recent article on the IMDB websight, Johnny Depp is now in contention for the role of Willy Wonka.

Direct the god-damned sequel before you even think of touching a remake of the original. I want to see what the Knids look like on film- or a 400 year old lady.

Ah okay I didn't even know they were remaking this movie. . Well I love this movie, and personally I don't think it should ever be remade. But, can someone please post any articles or anything they've found about it?
