The Facts Of Life is the long-lived 1979-1988 spin-off sitcom. I like it better then Diff'rent Strokes.

Wel, for one thing, FOL did run longer than DS. That's a big statement considering FOL was a DS spinoff. Most (but not all) of the time, spinoffs don't last as long as the originals. but in FOL's case.....

FOL and DS are two totally different shows. One of the things that is so great about FOL is that it's one of the few spinoffs that totally broke out of the shadows of the original show and became a success on it's own. Even tho it had Mrs. Garrett for the first 7 seasons, she became more known as being on Facts than being the housekeeper from DS who moved onto her own show.

Some will prefer DS, some will prefer FOL. But as someone posted awhile back, DS and FOL just might be the best 1-2 punch NBC has ever made (even tho many can argue Cheers/Frasier)

I am a huge fan of both DS and FOL...but right now I have to defend FOL. FOL is not your ordinary, everyday sitcom. It's one of those shows that grows on you. Back in the 80's, I thought it was OK....back then I kind of preferred DS to FOL. But now I love FOL 4ever (I say 4ever bcuz life is too short)....DS 4ever too. When I watch it, I feel that the majority of it is very convincing and so real. The way the 4 girls were put on probation together seems very real too- this is such an important detail that I didnt' know about back in the 80's. And all the main characters are great- the actresses are so good- as good as Gary Coleman. Those "Jo and Blair" arguments are so classic- Jo has a way of putting Blair in her place in such an amusing manner.

Sorry to babble on...I'll try to stop in a moment, but many of the stories of FOL represent things that really happen in real life, so the show has pretty much lived up to its name. Like DS, FOL is so different from today's sitcoms....I will not reveal any names of the sitcoms I am referring to but it's very hard for me to accept today's chararacters compared to FOL and DS....truthfully I think that many of today's characters act a bit airheaded (sorry to be so harsh but it's true....)

OK....THE END (for now..)

That is one of the first things I was about to say. Not only has FOL been on longer, but people got to know FOL more. And the cast members are still known to many people - especially Nancy McKeon (Even though the Todd Bridges Saving a Women's Life Thing was Big).

I also think that people could relate to FOL more. Not saying that they couldn't relate to DS, but FOL had more situtations.
