I saw the Golden Girls house in person - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

...I saw it at MGM studios in Orlando Florida in the spring of 1989 (the Golden Girls had just wrapped up their 4th season a couple weeks earlier)

We were on a tourist bus going through MGM studios and our tour guide told us, "if you turn to your right, you'll see the Golden Girls house." Caught me by surprise but I thought it was so cool to see it.

This was in 1989, I don't know if the house set is still there. Anyone been to MGM studious lately?

I've seen it before, I went to MGM Studios last year and I also saw The Golden Girls house.

I saw in back in '91. Of course I was only 5 then and didn't know what was going on, I want to go back and see it again, since I'd appreciate it now!

Just a thought:

Why does the house have a chimney when the show is set in Miami?

Having never been in Florida, I don't know if chimneys and fireplaces are common there?

It's part of the backlots tour. They take you down one of the streets with all the houses. Oh, it's still there. I was just there at Christmas for the Osborn light spectacle and it was covered with lights. It's been there since the park opened and I'm pretty sure it's empty and just used for an exterior shot. The park doesn't let anybody get close to the houses. Even when we were walking down the street for the Christmas lights, all the houses were roped off at the end of the driveway and lawn. It's interesting that somebody mentioned about the chimney on the house. I noticed that alot on the show. Weren't there a few episodes where their heat wasn't working? I don't understand why the girls were freezing. Yes, it does get cold down here in the winter, but not that cold, especially in Miami.
