TV Guide Classic Wings list - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I came across this list a few weeks ago at a TV guide site and they listed these 5 shows as WINGS classics. I thought it was interesting to review. It's hard for me to have only a "top 5" because there are so many I like, but I do like all of the episodes listed here.

5 Classic Episodes:

Exit Laughing: The laugh's on Helen when she learns jealousy is not behind Joe's reluctance to fix her up with his friend (Steven Eckholdt).

Planes, Trains, and Visiting Cranes: A self-esteem seminar run by Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) is analyzed by a dissatisfied past customer &3151 Helen.

Roy Crazy: Roy's ex-wife seems to want him back, which stuns everyone — except Roy.

When a Man Loves a Donut: A visit to "Eat-a-holics" reveals what's behind Brian's expanding behind; Casey compromises herself during a job interview.

There's Always Room For Cello: Roy says his jock son (Abraham Benrubi) wants cello lessons from Helen only because he's attracted to her, but the jock says differently.

Hmmm....I guess the only episode on that list that I would personally classify as a true "Wings Classic" would be "Exit Laughing".
There were so many OTHER episodes which were better written and just plain funnier....For instance, I think that just about EVERYONE here would agree that the episode where the guys go on that disasterous out-of-town golf outing and the episode where Joe and Helen slap each other with pieces of raw meat REALLY belong on the "Classic" list!

Plus, there were other episodes which may not have been side-splitting funny, but they were SO well-acted that they would classify as "classics"....for instance, "Joe Blows" (especially Part 1), the episode where Helen attends the Anger Management class and later tells Joe that she not only lost a boyfriend, but she also lost her BEST friend (Crystal really tore my heart out in THAT one!)...and of course, the show where Joe proposes to Helen in the elevator.

Yep, all those episodes you mentioned are worthy....which I think speaks volumes to the quality of the show, because to me there were many episodes that graded very high.

I like those episodes, but I can't believe they didn't have Murder She Roast, Blackout Buggins, or Insanity Claus on there. Those are always on my Top Ten list.

"Murder She Roast" is on MY list of "classics" too....and I've never even seen the episode! It's just that the written descriptions that I've read in various episode logs sound HILARIOUS!

(The thought ALONE of sweet Faye as a serial murderess is funny!)

hmmm... personally, I wouldn't call any of those classics. haha.

But those other ones, I don't consider to be the funniest or most interesting of the series!!
"Roy Crazy" was pretty funny, but only the subplot with the weird waiter guy from the Crab House stalking Helen. lol

man, It would be hard to list only 5 of my favorite epoisodes. But the ones that immediately come to mind are "Joe Blows", and "Whose Wife Is It Anyway"... But I like those because of the superb acting. They wouldn't be the funniest of the series.
As for the funniest episodes... that's too hard to chose, because there have been a lot of them that had me practically rolling on the floor laughing...

I just thought of another-
How could they not list "Ladies Who Lunch" as a classic Wings episode?!!
You know, that's the one where Helen and Gail end up becoming friends and hanging out all the time, and then Helen and Joe have a fight with meat, and then end up passionately kissing each other in Joe's kitchen, which causes Joe and Gail to break up because Gail came in and saw them and Joe couldn't come out and say that he didn't still have feelings for Helen, and then Joe was ready to get back together with Helen, and Helen didn't want to...
That is definately one of my favorites, and I know a lof of people love that one.

I totally agree! Ladies Who Lunch would easily make my top 3 of favorite episodes.

I agree, Ladies who Lunch is definitely a classic. Airport 90 would also probably make my top 5 list...poor Joe and his pathetic flight class, and Helen and Joe deciding to date...but what can I say, I'm a sucker for those Joe/Helen episodes.

I agree. There are so many great Wings episodes that it's hard to pick just five best ones.

I know I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I will NEVER understand the animosity towards Wings. I think it's a very funny and intelligent show and I wish we had more TV shows like it on the air. The critics can keep their darling Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond; I'll take Wings any day of the week.

(I do like Everybody Loves Raymond, but I think it's over-rated. I think you guys know how I feel about Friends.)

Oh, puh-leeeeeez! I think TV Guide doesn't really know what they're talking about. While the 5 they picked are good episodes, I agree with the rest of you that we all can pick 5 other episodes that are much better and considered 'classics'. Murder, She Roasts, Bogeymen, Blackout Buggins, etc. Pretty much all that you have mentioned.
