Default some recent episodes

(if this posted twice, it's because this board is being a jerk...)

hey, no one's been talking about the recent episodes!

I taped them all on wednesday night (well, 2-6 AM would actually be thursday morning. but whatever), and I've been watching an ep or 2 each night since then.

Well, so far I've seen the one where Joe and Helen get all that insurance money, then the one when Joe and Helen meet that architect who wants to design their new house, and then the one where Brian keeps eating and gaining weight because he's depressed that Joe isn't hanging out with him as much anymore.

well, the first one was a funny episode. It was so funny when Joe came home and saw all that stuff in his house that Helen bought. the way he was looking around was hilarious.
and Roy with the fake receipts. hahaha. That was funny when Joe and Helen were in Joe's office with the insurance guy, and Roy slid a receipt under the door for a laser disk player, and the insurance guy was like, "the name of the store isn't on here. where's you get it?" and Helen was like, "Laser Disks... and Stuff.." hahaha.
oh, and near the beginning when Joe brought out his safe box where he keeps all his receipts and stuff, and he said, "and i uploaded all this information to the internet, so if the world explodes, i can still prove that I had a Flo-Bee" hahahaha

and then the next episode where they meet the architect guy... as a whole, that episode wasn't the funniest. It didn't suck. but it was ok. The thing I found amusing was that the actor who played the architect is now on one of my other favorite TV shows- "Gilmore Girls".

and then the episode when Brian was eating all the time- I didn't think that one was that funny either. I was cracking up though at the way Brian was laughing at he 3 Stooges at the beginning of the epidode. lol he's so goofy. haha. But overall, it was just an ok episode.
Oh! I almost forgot about Antonio and his leather shoes!! hahahaha now that was funny.

what did you guys think of those episodes?

Yeah, the board is playing tricks on us I think.....anyway I posted a couple comments about the recent episodes...I love the "when a man loves a donut" episode....the one where Brian over-eats. I think sometimes as a fan of any TV show you tend to like episodes you can relate to and the entire premise of a guy struggling wiith his good friend having a marriage or a serious relationship is something I definitely can. I remember so well how my friends responded to me when I got into a serious committed relationship, and a very good friend of mine got married a few years ago and it went from seeing him almost every weekend, to about once every couple of months.

There's nothing wrong with that, and it's quite expected (and no I didn't go to Yankee Doodle Donuts ) but I thought the story line was so true and really done well with many classic Steven Webber moments, I liked the Antonio shoe thing too.

oh yeah. i see your post there about those 2 episodes! i didn't know that that one was called "when a man loves a donut" tho so thats why i didn't read that post yet. haha. i was too lazy to check the episode guide for titles.
But yeah, it wasn't really one of the funniest ever, but it made sense.

Still catching up on the block of episodes, so here are a couple more comments:

Twas the Heist before Christmas: Another great Gilbert appearance and I liked Helen's enthusiasm about throwing the perfect party....once again Tim and Crystal work so well together. And Steven Weber with his date was funny, I loved it when he had to use the straw to try and breathe.

Honey, we broke the Kid: Although nothing special, this episode still had its moments.....once again the Helen and Joe interaction was good with the way they obsessed about everything and Helen's concern for feeding the child properly was a crack up. I liked the constant "sidebars". And Antonio had some funny moments with the TV star.

I just watched THe Heist Before Christmas.
hahaha it was funny.
Joe's Christmas sweater!!
and Gilbert Gottfried- obnoxiously hilarious, as usual.
That was a good episode.

Ok, I have liked a bunch of episodes in a row now... i think i spoke too soon on not liking season 7 so far.. there were only those couple of episodes that i didn't like... I've liked all the other ones so far.

Krista, I like how you and I have our own private topic going here. It's just you and me......We rock! lol

See, season 7 isn't so bad.

I know season 7 and 8 weren't as good as the earlier seasons, but there was still some good stuff....as I start watching these episodes again for the first time in years I find myself laughing quite a bit. A friend of mine was visiting yesterday and I popped in the tape of the "Twas the Heist"...episode and both us were laughing so hard at Steven Webber with his date......you'll definitely see some episodes you won't like but I hope you end up liking more then you hate.

hehe yeah! our own topic! lol.
Where is everyone else lately?

anyway, I remembered some more funny parts of that episode:

-when Brian came into the party, and was like, "Merry Christmas! Ho Ho..." and then he saw Joe's Christmas sweater and goes, "HAH!" lol.

-when Joe was skiing in the kitchen. hehe.

-Or when Joe tried to microwave the goose, and then he and Helen fought over it, and it went flying out the window... hahaha!

-or when Casey was in the living room with Roy, and she opens the kitchen door a little and yells "I'm alone in the living room with Roy!" all freaked out. hehe

-or when Casey met Brian's date, but they all kept talking at the same time, and then it was awkward and and silent for a few seconds, and then Casey picked up a carrot stick and showed them and laughed at it like, "ppff!" as if she was saying, "wow! look at how funny this carrot stick is!". The way she did that just hit me really funny. hahaha. I like Casey. I didn't think I would, but I do. She's really funny. Amy Yasbeck did a great job playing Casey.- she's hilarious.

-and the way everyone was reacting to Brian's date's bad breath was really funny.

I have yet to watch the episodes from Wed.nights block. I went out of town the past few days and got back today. I'm familiar with all the episodes you all have been talking about. I did not like the episode where they had Brian gain weight. As somebody who has struggled with her weight all her life(gee, just like Helen!), apparently sitcom writers(and not just the Wings writers) think it's just SO hilarious to poke fun at the Heather Locklear size challenged people and make their fat jokes. 'Frasier' did the same thing a few years back when Jane Leeves was pregnant in real life and they had a storyline where the writers had Daphne gain weight and there was no shortage of fat jokes. Writers also seem to think that there is only one outfit that fit overweight people and that is sweat pants. I know-Lighten Up! but it just gets to me. One good thing about Frasier was they did have a bit where Frasier was talking to Niles and he did mention to Niles that everybody else had noticed that Daphne gained except Niles because he loved Daphne so much for what she was on the inside. It makes me wonder though that if the Wings writers had left the character of Helen Chappel a heavier person and cast another person(perish the thought!), would Joe still had fallen in love with her?

(what is wrong with this board? it's spazzing out! I hope this doesn't post twice)

hey phoebe-
I know what you mean. I think that was one of the things that did bug me about that episode. I mean, some parts of it were funny, and there are people who eat a lot and gain weight when something is bothering them- so it wasn't like it was far-fetched or anything, but I didn't like how the whole episode was basically making fun of overweight people. That bugged me.

I watched "Honey, I Broke The Kid" last night.. Didn't like that one that much... could Joe and Helen get any stupider in this episode? it's like all the common sense leaked out of their ears the minute they got this responsibility of babysitting.... the "sidebar" thing was funny tho.
What I did think was funny about that episode though, was Antonio hanging out with that actor guy. lol. Antonio thought he was just being friendly, when the guy actually had a crush on him.

Maybe Antonio could've 'hooked up' with the guy! He probably would've had more luck, then with alot of the women on the island!!

Hey guys,

Well I've been out of pocket lately. I finished up watching my "block."

I laughed so hard in "When a Man Loves a Donut" when Casey used Brian's Stooge knowledge to impress her interviewer. I also really enjoyed Brian at the therapy session. The only thing I didn't really like was the fact that he gained and lost that weight so fast... his eating problem went away so quickly!

In "Honey We Broke the Kid" the sidebars were so funny. The way Joe & Helen's own experiences crept into their parenting styles... Helen obsessed about food, and Joe about abandonment. I laughed the hardest at the end when the little girl wanted to say goodbye and Joe & Helen kneeled down, only to have the kid race into Brian's arms. I think someone should've given Helen a speech about how bad it can be to focus little girls on their "body image" though!

I really liked the Christmas ep. Joe's sweater, Helen wanting to be "The Christmas House" The date's breath, Helen going Nazi on everybody.

Let's see... hmmmm... I didn't think Antonio's tight shoes were funny. In the ep about Roy's son I have my usually aversion to the social issue commentary... but Joe & the crane game was funny.

Can't remember anything else... it's been a couple of days.

See ya

I'm more than halfway done watching last weeks block. Yeah, I've always agreed that the last 2 seasons were not up to par, but watching them today, they were OK. A few things I want to point out, though. I don't mean to sound technical since it is only a show. OK-1)I think it was a little overdid with Brian's weight gain. I mean come on, 4 whole pizzas? I'm not exactly 115 lbs. but I could probably eat no more than 3 PIECES!!! And all that chinese food? I like the garlic shrimp at my local chinese take out and that's 3, sometimes 4 meals for me. Oh, and it was mentioned on one of the posts how Brian was able to lose all that weight by next week's episode. We should all be able to do that!! HaHa!
2)In the Christmas episode, Helen mentioned that she wanted to be known as the Christmas house. It was then that I noticed that when the exterior shot of their house was shown, don't you think it would've been all decorated with Christmas lights if she really wanted to be known as the Christmas house?
3)In the episode where Helen goes crazy buying everything and she's bidding on the Monkeemobile. She didn't know who Peter Tork was, and she says to him "I hope you're as big a fan as I am." If she is such a big fan of the Monkees, how come she didn't know who Peter Tork was??
Yeah, yeah, I know it's all part of the humor of the show and I know I am being anal, but it was just some things I noticed.

that's what was supposed to be funny about it! hehe
