Guys,
Alan is in a couple of episodes. They include: Sweatshirt Monsters A Night in the Woods Long Distance Call I think his last name is Boothby. Didn't Wally date a girl by the name of Evelyn Boothby? Anyway, I think Alan is a pretty ugly and homy-looking kid! Why wouldn't they have Gilbert in Sweatshirt Monsters ? All three of the episodes are very good. In fact, "Night in the Woods is great with Eddie almost falling over the cliff and he's afraid and wants someone to stay with him while they get the forrest ranger! I love it when Eddie says, "Don't leave Whitey here, he'll throw rocks at me!!!" LOL! But Alan dosn't really contribute anything to the show. This is similar to Beaver's new out of the blue friend Mike in The Clothing Drive and Tell it to Ella. However, Mike did have a redeeming quality that was not known at the time. He was/is Tim Matheson from "Animal House" Mike should have been included in more episodes in place of Alan! Jack |

I didn't think Alan did anything for the show either. I did like Mike though. I wish he could have been in more eps. He was a cutie.

Alan seems okay to me. Beaver never had the best taste in friends anyway. They always got him into trouble and left him holding the bag.

Evidently 'Alan' was just another guy as a "filler;" somthing a little more than an 'extra' like the other kids in Beaver's class we never hear speak. He is involved as a friend, but is never the center of action, such as the one-timers Chuey ("Beaver and Chuey"), Kenneth ("Beaver and Kenneth"), and Dudley ("Wally and Dudley"). He doesn't really add anything besides the presence of another friend who is not as close as Larry, Whitey, and the interchangeables, Gilbert and Richard.
Besdies those few eps mentioned in the initial post here, there is also a character named Alan in the final season ep, "Uncle Billy's Weekend," who is played by a different actor. I assume he is supposed to be the same Alan, and his role is predictable-- to induce Beaver to do something to get him [Beaver] in trouble and then leave Beaver to face the consequences. |
