Default Why Is It That So Many Rock & Roll Artists Do Drugs?

I was watching a program called The History Of Rock & Roll earlier this week on Court TV cable station. Gene Simmons who used to be in the heavy metal group Kiss was the host of it. He's a odd looking dude LOL. Anyway this guy who used to be the drummer of the group Guns & Roses is in pretty bad shape now because of drugs. His speech is slurry. He said he was doing drugs with the band members cause everybody else was doing it. They ended up kicking him out the group without a explanation & he took them to court & sued them for a lot of money. He ended up winning the case. His message to people who wanna be in entertainment was leave the drugs alone. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that drugs aren't good for u. A person shouldn't do drugs just cause everybody else is doing it & it seems a lot of entertainers do that just cause everybody else is doing it & if you're not doing it, then you're considered weird. There has been a history of rock & roll artists especially guys in heavy metal bands who have gotten strung out on drugs & a lot of them have died from it. Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix are just a few who have died from it. People always talk about rappers & how rap music is so violent but u hardly ever hear of rappers dying from drugs. Only drug rappers do is smoking weed. That's about it.

Oh yeah, cause weed isn't a drug..

Rappers don't die from drugs because they usually just kill each other.

Oh, how true!

Remember that one time Keith Richards busted a cap in Roger Daltrey's ass? "Glock, glock, motha****a," he said, sippin' on a 40.

Angry "Mostly heavy metal bands do drugs"??

I resent the whole idea that "MOSTLY IT'S THE HEAVY METAL BANDS" who do drugs, there are many who don't. Many bands and performers didn't do drugs in the 80's because they knew it would hurt their musical proficiency--i.e., their ability to "shred" on guitar, etc. Maybe they have tried them off and on, but their lives weren't dominated by it. Anthrax is one band who never got into drugs, and Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS were against drugs (especially when they saw what it was doing to Ace Frehley and Peter Criss). I still feel there is this idea going on that heavy metal is vilified as this "drug-taking bunch of Satan Worshippers", and rap is somehow this saintly style of music.

Legal drugs:
Alcohol
Coffee
Chocolate
Tea
Cigarettes
Tobacco products
Coke
Pepsi
Mountain Dew

Lightbulb Drugs and music

Drugs and musical culture go back centuries. Classical composer Berlioz was influenced by opium. Be-bop musician Charlie Parker struggled with heroin. Hank Williams, Jr. and his battles with alcohol, the list goes on.

Many musicians have experimented with pot and other hallucinogens because they feel it opens them to creative possibilites. Other creative individuals have used it as well.

I think the reason they do drugs, is because they can, and get away with it. just because they are entertainers, doesn't mean they should be able to break the law.

I've heard of some that do it because it makes it somehow easier to deal with the pressures of fame. I don't know how that would be, but OK...

That was sooo shallow. Name 2 rappers that in fact actually killed each other.

___

I think that artists do drugs so frequently is because they are so widely available. Drugs allow them to temporarily get rid of their problems.

Heavy Metal artist aren't the only ones who do drugs (yeah they may have died from drug overdoses), you have rap artist who do drugs, pop stars do drugs (Didn't Britney Spears admit to smoking a lil' somthing, something). I wouldn't be surprised if half the music industry haven't done something. Don't just limit it all to Heavy Metal artist. Shoot, didn't some actresses and actors admit to drug used and haven't some even died from drug overdoses?
