The Lakers are like the New York Yankees in basketball. They spend a lot of money and sign many of the best players in order to get a championship.

But the Lakers didn't spend A lot of money. Malone and Payton are willing to make less money to get their first championship whch is why they signed with the Lakers

The Lakers moves obviously make them a better team than last year, but they could have the problem of too many guys looking to score. I think the KINGS are the team to beat. We all know that if Webber was healthy, the KINGS would have won the championship this year (or at least made the Western Conference Finals...The Nets were not going to beat any team from the West in the finals)

Utah is gonna be sorry next yr hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Malone & Stockton are both gone so now they're gonna be rebuilding for a long time. The Lakers are probably gonna win it all now cause i can't see anybody competing with them except Dallas & Sacramento. If the Spurs add a big man soon, they could still be one of the favorites also. I heard the Spurs are interested in Alonzo Mourning. I think Tim Duncan could move to starting center if the Spurs add a free agent power forward like a PJ Brown or Derrick Coleman. Derrick Coleman can still ball to be 36 yrs old. Alonzo need to retire cause i have a concern about his kidney problem. If he didn't have a kidney problem, he would still be playing right now & without the kidney problem, he would be a dangerous player still but that's not the case.

Honestly, I don't see why it's such a big deal that L.A. got Payton and Malone. Payton, yeah, that might help them, but Malone? They already have a huge guy, and Malone can't play defense like Robert Horry could. And, isn't Kobe leaving? It all just cancels out, IMO.

Robert Horry is a scrub & the Lakers need to get rid of him. Yeah he can hit a clutch shot every now & then & he's a pretty good defender. What makes u think Kobe is leaving? Kobe is probably gonna retire a Laker.

Your friend is a liar. Kobe ain't going nowhere. He'll be stupid if he does leave. Shaq doesn't have that much longer to play. I wouldn't be surprised if Shaq leaves when Phil Jackson does cause Phil only has one more yr left on his contract. Shaq already got 3 rings & if he wins one more this yr, he might retire without waiting to see what Phil does. Shaq has really accomplished everything there is to do especially if he wins another ring next season. He wants to be a police officer when his career is over with is what he said. He's already had his training for it. LOL@Shaq being a police officer making LA's streets safe hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Karl Malone's 40 years old. How much could he possibly add to the Lakers?

I think this is great news for laker fans for the short term, but if they're looking for long term success, I think signing two guys in the twillight of their careers was a stupid move. The Lakers are already considered one of the oldest teams in the league, so what I think they should be focusing on is signing younger talent. There are alot of great young up and coming players that are getting better as each year goes by, those are the players I think they should be signing. Of course after Malone, and Payton are gone, The Lakers will still be able to sign virtually anyone they want considering they have the second highest pay roll in the league, so I guess it doesn't matter too much anyway.

I think the thing the Lakers need to be most careful about is becoming too talented. Just look at the Blazers, and you can see how dangerous that can be. The Blazers have been considered by many to be the most talented team in the league now for some time, yet having so many good players, and changing the team each and every year has kept them from living up to their potential. The Lakers have already been having a severe chemistry problem for the last three years, and bringing in two superstars like Payton, and Malone is bound to make the chemistry even worse. Payton has been known throughout his career for speaking his mind regardless of the consequences. Malone is exactly the same way, and of course Kobe, and especially Shaq are infamous for speaking their minds. All four guys that I just mentioned are leaders, and not followers, and I don't believe a team can last long with that many leaders.

I guess only time will tell how the Lakers do next season. I personally doubt they'll be as dominate as many people think. I still think Sacramento, and San Antonio will be the teams to beat next year. We shall see.

At least it's a good excuse for me not to watch this horrid sport for another season.

I was thinking the same thing. My gawd...I don't watch sports news on tv for a few weeks and I find out through the board about Payton and Malone. Wonderful.
