Does anyone have any idea why they added lyrics to the theme song for the ninth season? Let's admit it - the song with words sounds like it was designed for no words.
Also, my interpretation of the lyrics is that it seems that it's the show's way of saying, on EVERY EPISODE that final season, that, "Ha, ha, you didn't think we'd last this long, did you?" Thoughts? Ben F. Schumin :-) |

They probably just wanted a change to the theme song. I don't mind it.

I liked the song too- moreso with lyrics, and you're right, the theme song was synonymous with the show.
I was disappointed that they dropped the kitchen table opening though in the 8th & 9th season- that was a classic opening, instantly recognizable as Roseanne. |

Indeed, I thought that the kitchen table opening was classic Roseanne. But at least for the eighth season they did the morphs like they were going around the kitchen table. Though nothing beats live action, like Roseanne winning the hand in the end of the opening and thus giving a reason for the laugh at the end.

A lot of TV theme songs are written with lyrics but are not recorded with them initially. Roseanne might be one of those. Here are some others:

THE TOY PARADE Here they come! Here they come! Hey! Here they come with a rum-tee-tum, They're havin' a toy parade. A tin giraffe with a fife and drum, Is leading the goofy brigade. A gingham cat in a soldier's hat, Is waving a Chinese fan, A plastic clown in a wedding gown, Is dancing with Raggedy Ann. Fee fi fiddle-dee-dee, They're crossing the living room floor. Fee fi fiddle-dee-dee, They're up to the dining room door! They call a halt for a choc'late malt, or cookies or lemonade, Then off they go with a ho ho ho, Right back to the toy parade. Here they Come! Here they come! (whistled verse) (repeat 3rd verse) |
