At one point during the first few seasons (I think!) there was a story about a young Jewish student murdered (and his room torched) at a yeshiva(?) in Canada. I have been through the Past Episodes list with a fine toothcomb and can't find any hint of the segment. Does anyone out there remember that story? I would like to know anything about it: when it aired, the date and/or place of the crime, the student's name, etc...etc... I know it's a long-shot, and if I get any answers, I may , but here's hoping!

The closest recollection of this story that I have is the 1986 murder of a 15-year-old boy at his Long Beach, NY Yasheva. It was the May 6, 1992 episode about a 15 year old boy found in his room on the floor with a candle burning in the room. There was no arson, but the case was very strange. Because of the Jewish beliefs, none of the other students were talking. That case always seemed like it had the ability to be solved. I don't know if that's the one that you're talking about, but it sounded like it could be it to me.

That strange case has always intrigued me. The cops are understandably frustrated about not having been able to find either a suspect or a motive (or both). And evidently more so by the fact that Jewish beliefs have discouraged his school mates from giving out any potentially helpful information related to the case. Nonetheless, like the cops investigating the murder, I too believe that the boy's unknown killer was likely familiar with the layout of the Yeshiva. That killer also may have known that Chiam Weiss was one of two Yeshiva students without a roommate. |
