Default Was Storylines about Mother Jefferson necessary?

I don't think having episodes revolving around Mother Jefferson was necessary because she was a Minor character. She was George Mother and was not as important as Louise, and Lionel. I think her character SLOWED the Down a lot. I think she was fine as a reoccuring character but not an entire episode revolving around her. That is the only complaint I have about season one and two.

Her character became popular, so naturally there was going to be an episode that "revolved" her.

I don't ever remember Mother Jefferson being popular

I enjoyed Mother Jefferson. I think it was an important role only because we see who George's mom is and his roots. She seemed a classy type woman and a proud woman. So........ naturally George wanted to be a sucess and show his Mom his sucessful career as a dry cleaner. The woman was funny. I just wished they showed more of her.

They could have spreaded it out a little. She didn't have to be seen every other episode. That was too much.

I love the stories centered around Mother Jefferson. She was a LOL character. You can tell the last season she was on that she was sick but she was a trooper. She was so frail and sickly looking. Her zingers at Louise was funny. Everytime she was on I laughed so much. She was sorely missed when Zara Cully, who played her, passed away. She was part of those great first season episodes.

Mother Jefferson was a fantastic character, it's a shame that she passed away during the show's run.

I like the episode where she encounters Bertram or whoever the guy is that called her "Toots." One of the funniest characters on the show IMO.

I didn't care for the character of Mother Jefferson. She bored me, and she was rude and mean to Louise. I have a hard time watching that.
I think she was on the show too much.

Exactly, i don't think George's Mother should have been seen that mch since she didn't live in the house.

I like Mother Jefferson! I just hate the fact they had to use a second Lionel.

Remember the episode where Mother Jefferson made George break a lunch date with Weezy so he could take her to a funeral. Weezy ended up going along and they sat through the funeral while Mother Jefferson did all this crying only to find out they were at the wrong funeral. That one's a classic. I know you don't like Mother Jefferson too much Sitcom Analyzer, but there's no way you can watch that episode and not think it's hilarious. By the way, Zara Cully (Mother Jefferson) would be now 109 years old if she were still alive. She passed away in 1978.

I agree. Mother Jeffersons disses of Louise were some of my favorite parts of the show. And I also prefer the original Lionel, in part because he reminded me of my oldest brother, they had the same mannerisms and facial expressions.

I agree! Mother Jefferson rocked! One ep I remember in particular was how she pretended to fall in the kitchen, saying the floor was "greasy" then proceeded to let Weezy wait on her hand and foot...LOL!!
