It's actually not that hard considering most people that suffer from depression dont know what's wrong with them. An 8 or 9 year old would pretty much feel left out of everything and sad all the time, but not really realize why just kinda figure there's something about them that makes them bad in some way. I suffered from depression from when I was 5 until i finally was diagnosed when I was 10 and now i take pills. Even adults need help in diagnosis, since it's such an isolating disease.

In some peoples depression it is really hard to cacth you notice that something is wrong and you can't put your finger on it so you just don't say anything, ergo why most people don't know they have it. Also most people don't always have to go through anything so... well depressing as what Jinny has gone though in order to become depressed, it's mostly a chemical imbalance in the brain. My Mom is suffering from depression and has been for about two years now so I really like this season because not only are they writing but Nancy is playing depression very well.

I'm really glad that Magda pushed Jinny so hard to visit a doctor. I want Jinny to get happy and stop being so depressed. She's been depressed since the show started 3 years ago and I want her to finally be happy!

I think Jinny needed to here a diagnosis from a doctor herself in order to realize there is a name for what she is suffering and she's not alone. Also, to know that there is hope in treatments for her. She also needs to talk to somebody besides Magda about it, and she's reluctant to open up to Jack so why not a stranger? sometimes that's easier.
Anyway, I loved the dog comment ![]() Oh yeah, and that scene with the doc bothered me cause in one shot she was in the middle of the sofa and then I'm pretty sure she miraculously moved to the end of it...ugh. ks |

i'm really glad jinny went to go see the doctor. like ks said, i think she needed to hear that she was depressed from a doctor.
but, i really hated how the doctor pressed her to take the pills, while she was CRYING! she should've stopped and asked jin how she felt, and why, and other things. |

hey -- from 5th gr. i knew i was depressed. . i used to haev anxiety problems when i was like in kindergarten / 1st gr. - so its possible to suffer from depression that young. -- plus she had the triggers, in the epsidoe - "Wish you were here" when they showed flashbacks of her childhood, her mother was always "out" of it. she never really talked to them, or anything when jinny told her john took caseys knife and everything. Plus her mom commited suicide, which very much caused depression in her life. so its all possible to suffer from depression, at any age.

Just as a side note: SUICIDE is the 6th leading cause of death in the age group 6-14 or 15 or something like that and the 3rd leading cause of death for the 15-24 year old age group...and it may even be higher because some people use their vehicle to drive into or over things and they rule them, like, accidental because they involve a vehicle... I can't believe kids my daughter's age are capable of coming up with a plan for killing themselves And like Nancy and Lisa said at the end of one of the recent episodes: Co-occurring disorders are very common now. It is very common for people to have a major depression, or bipolar disorder or the like concurrently with a substance or alcohol abuse problem, and they often lead to suicide. |
