Who's your favorite main character? I voted for Archie-- Carrol O'Connor really was a great actor.

Carrol O'Connor was definitely a great actor. In real life, he was a pretty liberal guy. To play such a bigot required not only great acting skill, but also a lot of courage since his image would be forever associated with hate. However, people who got the point of the sitcom understood that he was trying to make bigots look stupid (which, of course, they are).

I voted for Archie too. Though I disagree with him a lot, I would be hard pressed to name someone who has caused me more laughs in my lifetime. And my favorite expression is, "Laughter is the best medicine."

Archie Bunker gets my vote. Carroll O' Connor was a great actor, and he held the show together throughout AITF & ABP, even after the departure of Mike & Gloria and the death of Edith.
