EBAY and THE HACK-A-THON - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

People, have any of the rest of you heard of Sundays upcoming HACKATHON? Well, it used to be a big underworld thing, now it was reported in the papers, and the government (FBI) are trynna stop it happening. What the hackathon is is a competition, and the first hacker to hack 6000 databases wins 500MB internet space and a domain name, if 6000 isn't reached, then the closest to that. I'm not sure which time it starts, but mainly BIG corporate or government databases will be targeted,it is prefered if you're in the competition you should hack large databases with security- but since there will be so many people that will head straight to crack amazon.com or something, some hackers may head to places less well known. I was wondering-is SITCOMSONLINE a place that COULD be targeted- is it a database with some security to get into all our accounts? Hackers use every source to find a place to hack, they'll have it all, and since SO recently appeared in a magazine (TV GUIDE was it?) it could be targeted. It says thru that whole day you'll notice a slowing down in how long it takes a site to load (already TOO long 4 me) so I won't go online much on sunday, cos If you're online, and doing a transaction, or just online- it'll be easier to get you, besides, I don't wanna get held up in the net traffic.
The reason I brought EBAY into the title is because today I was on www.ebay.co.uk and was checking up shock treatment videos, and every product I clicked on, nothing specific, when I hit the back button on the computer to go back to the ebay homepage, a blue window appeared for like half a second, I tried it over 20 times to read it, and be sure that i read properly- it said 'DON'T PAY BT' though there didn't seem to be any links or anything. BT is a big internet service provider, telephone service, it's basically the biggest communications company in the UK- so I can see they'd be targeted. This COULD be an early warning sign some hackers are getting some practise, and have already tried something today. Did anyone else notice this- I was on the UK ebay site, I dunno if it happens on the ebay.com site

Why? The competition is based on Quantity... Not Quality from what ive heard...

Then if you target much more well known places you'll porbably have alot more proof to back it up- how can the ppl running this tell how many sites your computer hacks- then again they ARE hackers- they'll probably hack the participants computers. If everyone targets the FBI or something, how will these places know which person got them first- like the 7th caller wins- 1 million ppl want to be 7th caller! Anyway- i suppose they're looking fame for doing this. I kind hate hackers, everyone just goes on say by day, just going on the computer, doing things on their computer anyone can do, listen to music, they never even look at the 'Windows Hidden Files'- all those files that seem to do nothing, then hackers analyse it all and interrupt everything that no one now understands just to piss you off. The hackers probably don't even understand their own hack programmes now, sicne the nets changed alot. Did anyone see that article about the new 'Internet' called 'The Grid' that was launched. Apparently in 10 years everyone won't know how they lived without it, and it's the ultimate thing, where giant databses in labs and buildings hold tonnes of info all to be logged on (ie microfilm at the library) it'll let you do anything like edit films or access any existing programmes- I'm not exactly sure what the whole new thing is- but it'll be big. Then the hackers will come- they think in a year 3000 companies will be hooked up to the grid, the hackers will probably join first to knock it down before it gets started properly......................... beware- I think this hack could be big. This hype surrounding this one hackathon could lead tonnes of hackers to just start hacking on sunday anyway- or start more comps.
