Default Archie, Mike, and Gloria...

What was Archie like compared to "All in the Family" in "Archie Bunker's Place"? How similar was his attitude/disposition, and how different?

How much were Mike and Gloria (And Joey too) in"Archie Bunker's Place"?

To me, Archie was the same in Archie Bunker's Place.

Mike never appeared on Archie Bunker's Place only Gloria and Joey. Gloria and Joey appeared in a two part episode about Mike leaving Gloria for a younger woman. That two-part Archie Bunkers Place episode is what created the spinoff Gloria.

Mike did appear once with Gloria and Joey in the Thanksgiving Episode. In the first season.

I don't think Archie Bunker was exactly the same in "Archie Bunker's Place" as he was on "All in the Family." By the time of the spinoff, like George Jefferson eventually did, Archie mellowed somewhat. He dated a Puerto Rican, had a black housekeeper, and when Sammy Davis JR returned for a visit, Archie kissed him this time. I have a hard time picturing the Archie of aitf doing these things. And to me, the Archie of "Family" was funnier than the one in "Place."

I never knew Archie dated a Puerto Rican and I also didn't know Sammy returned for a visit. What is the name of the episode when Archie dates a Puerto Rican?

I agree 100%. Except for one thing, I'd say Archie mellowed quite a lot. Totally different personality, if you ask me. Hell, I can't really speak about the whole series, just the eps I saw, he mellowed a lot. And Shawn is right about Archie and Sammy. Archie would've never done that in AITF. You saw what he did when he gave mouth to mouth rescitation to Beverly LaSalle and he found out Bev was a guy, he stocked up on the mouthwash. Yeah, I know Archie didn't kiss Sammy on the mouth, but I guess what I'm trying to say is the old A. Bunker would've never kissed a guy.

Archie did not know that Catherine was Puerto Rican until he met her family.

This episode was not shown in the recent run of ABP, hopefullly TVL will bring it back and run the episodes not yet shown.

Archie started to mellow in the last years of AITF and continued the progession on ABP, same as George mellowing over the years on the Jeffersons. Archie's progress should be treated no different.

Default Happens in real life also

Well George and Archie characters were product of the times I suppose...

I remember my grandfather was the biggest rasist bigot in the world...I used to be shocked at the stuff that came out of his mouth (Even at ten eleven years old)...

Anyway Grandma died..He was alone..Time goes by...Further away from the Civil RIghts movement....Before you know it.>Grandpa is dating a Jamaican Black woman!!! WHich made us all Freak out!! Grandpa calmed down I supposed and realized better late than never that we all share this world and the minorities he read in the paper that were looting, stealing, were not the guys he was running into in everyday life....So he was not unlike those characters....But then again..Those guys were fictional...

MY FATHER WAS BIGOTED TILL HE DIED---in 1997. How's that for not going with the times?

Post ABP

I think Archie was the same in the first season of ABP, but in the second season he began to mellow. I only got a few second season episodes on tape but as I remember from the TVL airing, by the end of the second season it was pretty bad. The arrival of Billie at the beginning of the third season helped alot- giving Archie something to bounce his views off.

One episode in season four wasn't to bad (#96):

Archie finds out his antenna is bad & he needs a new one (he thought his TV was bad). At the end of the episode he says:

"When did it all start, FDR, Jimmy Carter, when, when?!!!"

I'm sure this wasn't all of it, but it was quite funny.

I'm glad they did this episode after Edith died. It would have broken her heart cause she really did love Mike.

Don't forget that selfish Mike abandoned his family so he could join some weirdo hippie commune with his floozy.
