Default What Can i do if a buy a DVD and get home and then notice a certain scene.....

FREEZES for 7 seconds? I don't think i can return it becauses yu can't return CD's. This is the second time i noticed this in 2 days. I watched the entire first season of Good Times and when i was watching the last episode, i noticed a certain scene froze for 10 seconds. Then i started watching the 2nd season of Sanford and Son and it was 3 discs. Had no problesms with the first one, but when i got to the last episode on the SECOND Disc, another scene was froze for 6 seconds. I'm extremely pissed off since i paid $40 for this DVD.

You should be able to exchange it for another copy of it...

I guess the annoying thing about all of this is if i'm able to get another copy, the same thing may happen again since it's no way to see things like this inside the store.

Solomon,

I'm gonna go ahead and warn you about something. I know you like All in the Family, so here you go. I have seasons 1 and 2 of AITF on dvd. 1 is pretty good. No problems with it. However, I had a mini problem with the second set. Just a mini problem, but still a problem. Okay, episode 1 on disc 2, I believe the ep is called 'The Blockbuster'. During one particular scene (Mike and Gloria's at the table. Archie and Edith are standing near their chairs, you can really notice it when the camera shifts to Archie and Edith), I get some snow lines across the screen. It lasted for a couple of minutes and I took the set back. I ordered another set and got the ordered set. Take it home and watch it, and the replacement had the same problem and same scene. I asked my friend Shawn about it because he had the AITF dvds, and he said he thought he had the snow lines, also. I kept the replacement set. I figured if both of the copies I got had problems, Shawn's had problems, I'd say every single copy had problems.

Just kind of wanted to warn you about the AITF problem. That's the only scene I had a problem with. I don't have the Good Time set, sorry. You should def. go to the GT board and ask if anybody else has a problem with their discs. It could be that way for every single set.

Don't get discouraged with DVDs. It's pretty cool to see the show w/o commericials and for the shows that have bonus stuff. AITF doesn't have any bonuses, which kind of sucks. But hey, guess I shouldn't be greedy. Anyway, good luck on getting a replacement. Sorry the set is screwed up and I hope the rest of the sets aren't screwed up.

Jenny I just got back from Tower records with the replacements and went to look at the same episodes on the Good Times DVD and Sanford and Son DVD and the same freeze scene was on the same episodes. The manager at the store said something about a carry over-He said manufactures have to fit so much info on one disc and it's called carrying over. It's not skipping- it just on pauses for 7 seconds and then the episode continues. When i got back and saw the same freeze on the same episodes i thought i was going to die-LOL. I guess that carry over thing makes sense because it happened on the same scene and same episode.

When I first got a DVD player, I bought "Highlander" season 1. It had the problem you are referring two about four or five places in the set. Many episodes were perfect, but there were these few defects. I brought it back, got it replaced, and the new ones do not have the problem.

If the DVD is defected in any since, they have to replace it. You might not get your money back, but they'll surely exchange it for another copy. If for some reason they won't, ask to see the manager because I don't know of a single place that wouldn't do so. I've heard too that some DVD sets are particularly prone to this since some companies don't package them well. I've heard quite a few complaints regarding the Buffy DVD sets that are usually scratched up and/or have technical problems since many of them were loose in the box.

Yeah I replaced both DVD's and the replacements had the Freeze scenes. They explain somethin about a carry-over- Somethng about transferring all that info onto DVD and then the carry over is when the freeze scene is.

Just for kicks, get one of those things to clean your DVD player and clean your DVDs with Windex. It probably won't help with the problems you're describing, but it'll prevent any further problems. Besides, they're nothing wrong with being clean, as far as technical stuff goes.

just so you all know, dvds do have scenes that freeze.... it's part of the manufacturer's "signature" so that everyone knows that it is authentic. you're dvds aren't screwed up unless it skips scenes or does something weird like that. trust me, my house has hundreds of dvds and all of them do it somewhere.
