Cool Burning Down the House, Part 1

I hadn't seen this episode in years and years. I completely forgot about the great footage of Helen and Joe in Jamaica. I would have been just like Joe if I was in Jamaica with Crystal

I did remember the confrontation with Joe and Brian and I always found it upsetting. It was well acted by Tim, but it was difficult to watch. It's no fun seeing Joe mad at Brian.

yeah, it was a good episode.
(Every time I look at the title of this post, I start singing that song from the 80's. I forgot who it's by... "3 hundred sixty five degrees, burnin down the house!" who was that? The Talking Heads??)

Helen was so funny when she was freaking out about the house being burned down. "The house burned down! it must have been a fire..." haha!

and yeah, I agree with you- the part when Joe said to Brian, "I want you out of my life.", That was so sad, I almost cried!
I couldn't imagine my brother ever being that mad at me that he would seriously say that. Me and my brother are best friends too, and I would be devastated if he ever got that mad at me that he would say that.

Yeah, The Talking Heads, I remember that song....."Watch out you might get what you're after, Cool babies strange but not a stranger, I'm an ordinary guy Burning down the house".....haha, what a song!

o wow. I never knew any of the other words to that song. hehe. I could never figure them out, and I never looked them up.
That sure is a strange song!
I like the talking Heads. They're weird. I love the video for "Once In A Lifetime". haha that's great.
actually, I think those are the only 2 songs I know by them. I know my Dad is a fan of theirs.. I'll have to see if he has any of their CD's...

For some reason I have "I Ran" by Flock Of Seagulls stuck in my head right now.... hmm...

I have to confess that those are the only two Talking Heads songs I really know as well......I do love that song Once in a Lifetime...."you may ask yourself, well how did I get here?"....haha, I do that all the time!

Flock of Seagulls??...wow you are an 80's music machine! See if you can drum up "867-5309 jenny" too! Ahhh, I'm going way back in the time machine now....hehheh.

That's funny, I hadn't seen the episode in years either, and the scene in Jamaica was the scene that I actually remember the most from that episode (this is one of the few episodes that I actually remember from way back when it was on NBC, for some reason; though every now and then when I see an episode, a light bulb will go off, and I think, "hey, I kind of remember this one!"). That scene was funny--I love that seductive look that they keep giving each other, it's a crack up. That scene was really sad with Brian and Joe. I have to say, I found Casey and Brian to be kind of annoying last night in their scenes together. I didn't think I'd mind them as a couple, because they always were funny together when they were friends, but for some reason they kind of got on my nerves last night. Also, I felt sooo bad for Antonio! It seems like they're kind of making Antonio into somewhat of a pathetic figure that you're supposed to feel sorry for.

Oh, I AM an 80's music machine!!
haha! Tommy Tutone! that song is annoying tho. I've always wanted to call that phone number: 867-5309 just to find out who it belongs to, but nowadays, too many people have caller ID, and they'd know whose ass to kick.

you know what one of my favorite 80's songs is right now? "Save A Prayer" by Duran Duran. I love the key that song is in. It's in some weird minor key, and there are some really cool harmonies in that song.

This two-part episode is one of my absolute favorites in the entire series, because of the Joe and Brian interaction. Definately dramatic and heart-breaking.

But I totally agree that Brian and Casey were somewhat annoying together in these eps.

That seen is very dramatic and upsetting, but I've watched it over and over and over again. It breaks my heart, but I love it at the same time. I don't know why.

I know what you mean! Sometimes on TV shows, there's a scene that's soo sad, but it was so beautifully done that I want to watch it again.
I think for me, it's really rare that a TV show really makes me feel something. like most of the time, I'll see a sad scene on a TV show and be like, "oh, that's sad." but it doesn't really affect me all that much. and then once in a while, there's a scene from a TV show that really makes me feel something- whether it's happy, sad, or whatever else, and it's just like, "wow..." because it was acted so well, or written so well, or directed so well, and/or all of the above, that it made you really feel some kind of emotion. so you just want to watch it a whole bunch of times.

That Joe-Brian scene hit ME like a ton of bricks....because I knew EXACTLY how Joe felt at that moment!

Not to unload on you guys, but my father (who passed away a couple of years ago) could be very manipulative and verbally abusive throughout most of my life.

When I was single and he did that stuff to me, I could take it....I might argue back, but I basically took it again and again...

However, after I was married and Dad started doing that stuff to my wife and kids, I thought to myself, "OK, that's ENOUGH!"

I didn't estrange myself from him , but I stood up to him in a very calm manner (just like Joe did). I didn't raise my voice, but I said to him (very factually), "It's not just ME any more, and this will NOT continue!". while Dad looked at me with this "You're kidding, right?" expression on his face, just like Brian did.

Dad's verbal games DID stop after that, but our relationship was never the same. Instead of ME being on pins and needles when I was around him, suddenly HE was the one who was walking on eggs and being on his best behavior around my wife and children....and me. This "new" relationship had an awkward, strained feeling about it, but I couldn't allow that previous behavior to continue.

It's amazing how much garbage you can take from someone when you're single and it's just YOU...and how LITTLE of that stuff you will stand for when you're married with a family of your own, and it affects THEM!

As I watched that scene between Joe and Brian, I thought of Dad....I didn't actually CRY, but I had one hell of a big lump in my throat!

Anyhoo, losthighway -- didn't you love "And She Was" ? That was always my favorite Talking Heads song.... oh, and "Take me to the river, drop me in the water..."

Love,

Part I and II are my other two fav. episodes of Wings. It was very well acted by Tim, Crystal and Steven. Helen had me rolling and the things she was saying. ROFL. Joe was right though He is always cleaning up Brian's messes, and it was fine when it was just Joe but now he has Helen to consider. Brian needs to grow up a little and think of other's once in awhile. I was in tears though when Joe was saying all that to Brian, it was very compelling

hehe. yes, I'm proud of my 80's music knowlege! I was born in 1982, and my parents were always listening to music, and watching music videos, so I just love all that 80's music. It reminds me of when I was little.
I like to make mix CD's of random 80's songs. I listen to them all the time.
