Question Which Gladys Kravitz do you like better?

I like Alice Pearce (Gladys Kravitz #1) by default. I've only seen one episode with Gladys #2 but that really isn't enough to make a judgement. Pearce really makes me laugh whenever she screams or yells, "Abner! Abner!" George Tobias was perfect for the role of Abner, too. He came up with some good one-liners.

So do you like Gladys #1 or Gladys #2?

I like Alice Pearce's portrayal of Gladys Kravitz the best. Her expressions were priceless. It's such a shame that her life was cut short by cancer at 47.
Sandra Gould did a good job playing the role, but she just wasn't as funny to me as Alice.
George Tobias was terrific as Abner. He never found out the truth about Samantha being a witch, did he?

I don't know. I don't think anybody besides Darrin knew. Here is an interesting quote that makes me chuckle every time I see it on the IMDB.

Gladys: I bet she has some strange disease and we could catch it. You want to wake up with something strange?

Abner: I've been doing that for 20 years.

This is a good question. Whereas I'm definately only a fan of Dick York in the Darrin change I really can't decide in the Gladys change. I like both Alice Pearce and Sandra Gould. They played the role differently and I remember Sandra Gould in an interview saying that she really admired Alice's work and didn't want to do a copy. Alice's interpretation was alot friendlier towards Samantha than Sandra's. Both women were excellent and had some classic episodes. I agree totally that George Tobias was a wonderful addition (one of many of course) to the cast. His Abner was priceless with his dead pan one liners. A superb actor who I was so glad went through the entire run of "Bewitched". I in particular like his episodes "A Vision of SugarPlums" where he is revealed as a potentially loving father, and the episode where he seperates from Gladys and moves in with the Stephen's. He was allowed to really do some acting in that one.

I preferred Alice Pierce representation of Gladys Kravitz, I really enjoyed the chemistry between Abner and Gladys #1.

I'm in the minority, but I like Sandra Gould the best. Maybe it's because she's the one I remember from watching the show growing up (the B&W episodes were rarely rerun when I was younger). Alice Pearce was good, too. But Sandra Gould was just a very funny lady -- her voice and diction just make me laugh, no matter what show she turns up on ("The Brady Bunch", and the various "Lucy" shows, for example).

Alice Pearce, definitely. Sandra Gould is a terrific actress, but she just wasn't Gladys to me. Gladys #1 was annoying yet lovable. Gladys #2 was just annoying. Good thing for George Tobias or else I wouldn't have been able to tolerate the Kravitzes after Alice Pearce died.

IMO both actresses bring their own something special to their versions of Gladys. I mostly grew up watching the second Gladys, I don't remember seeing many of the black and white episodes growing up.

I would have to say no. 2 by a small margin.

Did you grow up in the 80's? I did, and as I recall, they didn't rerun the B&W eps much back then.

I too remember Sandra Gould the most from watching the show growing up, BUT I still prefer Alice Pearce as Gladys Kravitz. It didn't take me very long to get accustomed to her when I first saw the B&W eps on Nick-at-Nite. Nonetheless, Sandra Gould still did a very good job playing the part, and it's a good thing she was available to step in when Alice Pearce died.
