Default Brian and Casey

Oh, I'm REALLY going to bend some people out of shape with THIS one, but I actually LIKE Brian and Casey as a couple!

I know that they don't have this "hot and heavy" serious relationship (at least not at the point that NICK is at with the episodes), but they ARE kind of fun to watch when they get together and go out.

They have sort of a "Spencer Tracy-Katharine Hepburn" relationship....and I think that each person brings out good qualities in the other....

Have you ever noticed how much better Brian dresses when he goes out with Casey? Casey seems to bring out this "classy" side of Brian, and Brian seems to bring out this "wild and fun" side of Casey...she's able to let her hair down a little and have fun when she's with him.

They remind me of Nick and Nora Charles of the old "Thin Man" movies....they're able to go and have fun (and be a little wild) but in an elegant and sophisticated sort of way.

I don't think that Alex was good for Brian at all...he was always trying to be something that he wasn't with her, and it seemed like he could never relax and feel good about himself in that relationship....but with Casey, Brian's attitude is "Hey look, this is who I am....Sure, we can go to the Country Club and I'll wear a tux...but we're stopping for pizza and ice cream afterwards!". He's still able to be "Brian" with Casey, and he'll only take so much of her snootiness.

OK, I know that some of you will disagree heartily with me on this, but I just wanted to state my thoughts on Brian and Casey as a couple.

What! I'm outaged! I'm shocked, I'm stupified, I'm, I'm, I'm.....out of indignant things to say.......(yes, I'm kidding)

Actually Pilotguy, it's not that I didn't like seeing Steven and Amy in scenes together, because I did. I always felt Amy had great comedic timing and was a better actress then Farrah. I still liked Farrah, but for different reasons. With Farrah I liked having a character that was sooo different then everybody else in the cast, and it was good to have a character that made Brian change so much. It helped make the show more real and allowed for interesting plot lines to develop. But Amy is very good.

I just didn't like the idea of Brian and Casey romantically together, and it had more to do with the characters they were then anything else. First of all, it was just too damn convenient to have Joe and Helen married, AND have their brother and sister get together. I never saw the actual chemistry between the characters, it was more an attitude of "well your alone, I'm alone, we're both here, hey why not?".....it just didn't work for me.

Someone on this message board has commented that they wish they had pushed the Antonio and Casey relationship more, and I agree. I don't think you could of ever had those characters as a true couple, but it would have been nice to have seen Antonio's devotion rewarded a little, especially after the way he tried to protect her from the married man that pursued her etc.....(I don't know if you ever saw that episode).....but they did things that made it appear like they would draw the characters closer, and instead they just dropped it and lumped her with Brian for a while.

The three biggest mistakes by the creators, in my opinion, were bringing in Bud, hooking up Brian and Casey and the third I'll explain later, since I don't want to spoil anythng for you.

Wait, wait...don't tell me...let me guess....Is that third mistake the "multiple house fires" story line? From what I've been hearing and reading, NOBODY bought THAT one!

As for the "You're alone, I'm alone, we're both here, hey why not?" attitude of Brian and Casey, both of them had been put through hell by past relationships....maybe they were both burned out and neither one of them wanted to work that hard any more!

(From a personal standpoint, at least three long-lasting marriages that I know of started with that same "We're both alone....Hey, what the hell?" type of attitude...fortunately, not MINE! "Wings" isn't the ONLY place where you find screwy relationships!).

I like Brian and Casey together because I think they compliment each other like Uncle Ben and rice. The stick up Casey's butt is slowly dissolving thanks to Brian and Brian is finally with a woman who doesn't have committment issues *cough* *Alex* *cough*

I liked Brian and Casey together very much! I think with Casey Brian could be himself unlike with Alex. It seemed like with Alex he was trying to be someone he wasn't. Casey is alot more fun and likeable with Brian, and vice versa.

I wouldn't have a problem with them as a couple if they were in an actual relationship. They're just sex partners. And because Joe and Helen are married, Brian and Casey hang out together alot.

Sheesh Pilotguy, I guess I was a bit too obvious! lol

Yep, the third thing was definitely the two fires....the first one I didn't mind, the second one was overkill as if the writers were running out of ideas. I wasn't certain if you already knew about all of that, but now I know.

It's interesting that you know some couples that got together like that....it does happen sometimes, and one of the things I always liked about Wings is that many plot lines had a great deal of reality based in them. I know many people didn't like Alex and how she changed Brian, but to me that was real, because I have watched several friends get involved in relationships where it really wasn't a good fit, but they did it, and they did try to change, just like Brian did with Alex.

Brian and Casey were definately fun together, no doubt about that. But they were never written to be a couple couple, and the fact that they just sorta hang out and sometimes sleep together...well, that just plateaus and plays out after a while, and this is how their relationship continues until the end of the series. I think very few viewers, and certainly not the writers, ever thought "yeah, Brian and Casey would make a great couple!" Its just unfortunate they didn't do more with the Antonio and Casey relationship, because that one had potential and spark. But they decided to go with the Brian and Casey as buddies because Helen and Joe were busy with each other instead. Their relationship doesn't go anywhere though.

what's this "multiple house fires" thing you guys are talking about?

and the Brian and Casey relationship. It's weird. It bugs me that they are not actually together, but they end up having sex once in a while...
But it is actually kind of funny, now that i saw the episode last night where that happens, that sometimes for some very strange reason, they can't take their hands off each other. It's done in a funny way, but the whole idea of it is actually kind of annoying.
But yeah, other than that, I think Brian and Casey are good together, in a friend sort of way.

At the beginning of season seven, Brian and Casey burn down Helen and Joe's house while having sex. At the beginning of season eight, Joe and Helen accidentally burn down Brian's house. Brian's house is the house that he and Joe used to live in. That's also the house Lowell lived in for a year.
