Homemade DVD question... - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I recently acquired a set of DVDs of "Incredible Hulk" and "Green Acres" from different people. All of these DVDs skip (I don't know what else to call it), meaning... every so many minutes the film slows for a second. What is this called? Does anyone know? It's tough for me, a DVD newbie, to explain this to fellow traders. The folks I got these from never mentioned this in our deal, so maybe this is just typical of homemade DVDs.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am probably not going to be much help, but I'll try. Before I bought DVD-r's, I did a lot of research to find out the best brand to use. I read a lot of horror stories about 'no name brand' DVD-r's. They are really cheap (mostly seen on ebay), but I heard they don't play back very well in a different machines. So, I am not sure if that is the problem. Are the DVD's you received a brand name? I think these are just like VHS, some brands are good, some not so good. It took me about a month to finally pick what brand I wanted to use. I spent a lot of time at this site here:

They have a DVD-R media message board. People dicuss the good and bad there. It was really helpful to me.

I'm no expert on this but try playing the discs on another player of a different brand. They may play fine on another.

There can be many reasons why your dvdr is skipping. First media some players dont like certain media. Especially cheaper media like princo. Also if the dvdr was burnt at 4x it might harder for your player to read than a dvdr burnt at 1x Also check if your dvd player is compatible with dvdrs.

We bought the cheapest DVD player (Mintek 1600) we could find so that is more than likely the problem, though when I checked the chart on http://www.dvdrhelp.com it's supposed to be capatible. My player plays VCDs all right.
