Default Happy 37th Birthday, "Dark Shadows"

On June 27, 1966, "Dark Shadows" premiered on the ABC network at 4:00PM eastern. Now, 37 years later, it is still a cult classic that has one of the hugest followings ever. Let's all celebrate by sharing our favorite moments from the show. My #1 fave is any scene in 1795. That was truly a great storyline for a truly great show.

Happy anniversary, Dark Shadows!

As for favorite moments, I have many. I loved the first episode. It was so moody and set up the entire show, as did the episodes following after it. I loved many of the scenes in the first year of the show because they were often witty, such as the exchanges between Liz and Roger.

I LOVED the 1795 storyline. The characters were so great - like Angelique and Millicent. I enjoyed some of the shorter term characters in it, like Suki Forbes. The last few episodes were so sad, with everyone either dying, being insayne, or hopeless. The only one who had that much of a future was Daniel, and when he's shown in 1840 he didn't exactly have the best life.

I also love the haunting of Collinwood by Quentin and Beth. One episode I really liked was when they had to abandon Collinwood. I loved how they panned around the different rooms as "Quentin's Theme" played. The 1897 storyline was also great.

I can't really comment on the later years. Leviathan started out good and really went aimlessly until they went to 1970PT. So far I think 1970PT has been good and I loved the scene where Alexis switched places with Angelique. From what I've seen of the haunting of Collinwood by Gerard and Daphne and 1840 storylines, they seem pretty good too.

My favorite years of the show are 1966-1968. The show had great writing and great acting. The show went down in quality during the whole Adam mess, but I think it improved in late 1968. In late 1969/early 1970, I think it started going down in quality. I can't really comment on anything past 1970PT, other than I like that portion of 1970.

Happy Birthday Dark Shadows!

Let me start off with....... I saw Dark Shadows back when it started in 1966. I would run home from school to watch it.

I got really involved with the soap opera. I also wore the clothes that you see them wearing back in the 60's so I laugh now at the crazy styles back then. In the beginning Dark Shadows was in black and white. Then color was introduced so we got to see the peoples beautiful eye colors and the colors of the house.

My favorites back then were Barnabus and Angelique, then Quentin, and of course the guy who's playing Cyrus Longworth right now. The scariest moment (I remember) was when Willie Loomis opened the coffin and Barnabus took him by the neck. I'll never forget it..... That's my favorite part. Oh and the part where Julia Hoffman looks in the mirror (At the costume party) and she doesn't see Barnabus's reflection. The soap opera was a real big HIT back then.

I remember when Jonathan Frid came on the Johnny Carson Show and talked about Dark Shadows. I had read all the teen magazines and Barnabus use to grace the covers. My sister and I were scared of Josette (The ghost) We couldn't sleep at night I'm happy to see that it's still being played on the Sci Fi channel for new fans to see it.
