Last night's episode was so cute...I loved seeing those old clips of how Joe and Helen got together...

I wonder why they didn't show a scene from "Airport '90," which was when they decided to date...but I loved how they showed the scene from "The Puppetmaster" when Helen is showing Joe the way to kiss, and he stumbles over the chairs afterwards. I think that is so cute! That's one of my favorite scenes, and they didn't show this part last night, but it's so funny how after Joe leaves, Helen casually walks over to the lunch counter and pours a glass of ice water down her shirt!

I also liked the part where Brian talks about how happy he is for them..that was so sweet.

Thank you, Kris10m! I fell asleep last night and left the VCR on, so last night's episode didn't tape and was wondering what the episode was about. I'm sorry I missed it! I've always loved clip shows.

I really enjoyed this episode too! I like all of the characters of the show, but I always felt the dynamic of the Helen-Joe characters and relationship were the driving force and the glue of the show.

There were so many classic moments between the characters, whether you talk about the first kiss where Helen was trying to demonstrate how to do it..."don't pucker up like Dudley Do Right"...or the great fight in the hanger, or when Joe took Helen to court, or the spanking each other with meat...it just goes on and on, and it was great to see all these types of clips again.

Another thing I always liked about Wings is how the writers remained so consistent with all aspects of the show for the entire 8 year run. For example in year one or two of the series Joe gave Helen a cameo as a birthday gift that had belonged to his mother, and it was a nice moment.....and then several years later when Joe and Helen did the marriage proposal episode in the elevator Helen was wearing the cameo. That's just a cool touch and incredible detail that the writers and actors had.

That cameo was also a subtle bit of symbolism.....Helen was wearing Joe's gift while she was on her way to marry another man... a most effective way of showing that she couldn't REALLY let go of Joe!

The very ending of last night's "video" show was great. If you haven't seen the episode yet I won't spoil it for you...but it showed that Joe and Helen's love for each other wasn't just a short-lived feeling.....A very nice touch!

Oh I loved last night's episode! It was one of the best. I love Joe and Helen's fights, and there kisses-WOW! They sure had some steamy kisses. I Love how they kiss.
I loved the fight in the hanger the best, it was one of the funniest fights they had.
Yes, I love how Brian was so happy that Helen was gonna be his new sister.

I didn't even notice that she was wearing the cameo in that scene! I have that episode on tape, so I'm going to have to watch it again. Speaking of consistency on the show, I thought of this when they showed the scene last night with Antonio as a waiter (he was hilarious in that episode). A lot of shows have actors in guest roles, and then make that actor a regular or recurring character on the show, maybe because the actor made an impression. But they often have the actor come back as a different character, not thinking that the audience will notice. But with Antonio, that's not the case. I'm thinking that Tony Shalhoub made such an impression on producers in his role as the waiter Antonio, that they brought him back and decided to include him as a character in the show. They didn't bring back the actor as a different character, but made him the same character and actually acknowledged that he was the same guy that was the waiter in the other episode. Of course, I think they made him a regular shortly after that episode, so it would have been really obvious (more obvious than in some shows, where you just notice that type of thing in reruns) if they didn't make a reference to his stint as a waiter. But I just thought that was a great example of consistency on the show. I'm really rambling on...

And to respond to Topanga, I agree, Joe and Helen have such great chemistry, and it really show in those kissing scenes.

Crystal and Tim really did have incredible chemistry together. That is part of why I enjoyed watching the entire Helen and Joe story lines so much. This may just be my warped mind blurring the fantasy of TV too much with reality, but I always had the sense that Crystal was truly attracted to Tim.

I'm not suggesting anything happened, I know Tim was married and I'm sure everything was always completely professional between them, but I just don't think you can create that kind of chemistry in front of the camera unless you have some kind of chemistry as individuals.

Yeah, I've noticed in a few episodes Helen wearing the cameo. Also, I remember seeing a few comments from people about Antonio a while back. I don't care what anyone says but I loved Tony Shaloub's character. I thought he was so funny. I was watching the episode the other day with Mary Pat Lee and the way he was acting at her show. Then when Brian imitated him 'let's get him, girls!' and Antonio was laughing at him. I watch Monk once in a while but don't get to watch it as much as I should. I don't know why I just don't tape it!!! But I know I probably wouldn't watch it if Tony wasn't on it.

I was reading a book about "The Dick Van Dyke Show", and according to Mr. Van Dyke, there was a similar real-life "chemistry attraction" between him and Mary Tyler Moore....

Nothing ever happened between the two of them, and they were both happily (at least at the time) married to other people, but there WAS some sort of "flirty attraction" between them....and there could have been that same type of thing between Tim and Crystal.

Pilotguy, I was reading an article recently about Dick VanDyke & Mary Tyler Moore and Mary was saying how she still admires Dick after all these years and Dick always had a crush on her. I love hearing stories about that, especially these days where I hear too many Hollywood stories about performers not getting along. I was also watching an interview with Josh Hartnett talking about Harrison Ford and that movie, Hollywood Homicide. Josh made it no secret that Harrison treated him like crap. I just don't like hearing stories like that. You just know that Tim & Crystal got along on the show because if they didn't, I really think that Crystal would've left unhappily like Thomas Haden Church. Not Tim, I mean come on, I don't think they would've let Tim Daly leave.

I've mentioned this before, but on that PBS-televised play "The Gin Game" that was shown a couple of months ago, Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore STILL had that great on-screen chemistry, even though they were playing entirely different characters who lived in a senior citizens' residence.....

I like to think that if Tim and Crystal acted together years from now, even if they were playing different characters, there would STILL be that wonderful chemistry between them.

(Hmmm...Elderly actors Tim and Crystal playing feisty senior citizens....now THAT could be GOOD!).

And yes- that scene from "The Puppetmaster" wen Helen demenstrates to Joe a different way to kiss- I looove that kiss. hehe. That just looked like such an AMAZING kiss. wow!
and then I love it when Joe goes to walk away after, and he trips over the chairs, falls on top of them, and then rolls onto the floor. hehe!!
I remember seeing that episode very early on when I first started watching Wings on N@N, and that was one of the scenes that really got me into the show, because then I really got interested in the whole Joe/Helen relationship, because I saw how much chemistry they had together. and that got me more interested to keep on watching the show.

I forgot to mention....

As a rule, I hate "cheater" episodes (those episodes where they fill up a lot of time with clips from past episodes). However, THIS episode actually made good use of the past clips to tell the story of Joe and Helen's relationship. These old clips had a PURPOSE, they weren't just time-fillers to save the producers time and money.

I wonder if anyone else noticed this....The "non-video" scenes were on film, as usual....but when we were looking through Brian's camcorder viewfinder at the various participants in the video, THOSE scenes were shot on actual videotape.
It was an interesting mix of the two mediums, film and videotape.
