And along comes season Three
Season Three: 1974-1975 Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce Captain "Trapper John" McIntyre Lt. Col. Henry Blake Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan Major Frank Burns Corp. Walter "Radar" O'Reilly [Recurring Cast] Father Mulcahy Corp. Maxwell Klinger ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 049. Rainbow Bridge 050. Life with Father 051. Springtime 052. Iron Guts Kelly 053. Payday 054. O.R. 055. Officer of the Day 056. The General Flipped at Dawn 057. There Is Nothing Like a Nurse 058. Private Charles Lamb 059. A Full Rich Day 060. Checkup 061. Big Mac 062. Alcoholics Unanimous 063. House Arrest 064. Adam's Ribs 065. Mad Dogs and Servicemen 066. The Consultant 067. White Gold 068. Bombed 069. Love and Marriage 070. Aid Station 071. Bulletin Board 072. Abyssinia, Henry ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Five Favorite Episodes Are: -Checkup Trapper suffers from an ulcer and is under the impression that he can get a discharge for it. -Adam's Ribs Hawkeye is desperate for some ribs from a restaurant back home. So he orders it and plans on how to recieve them. -The Consultant A veteran doctor visits the 4077th to see Hawkeye and Trapper. When Hawkeye needs him for an operation, the man gets drunk. -Bombed Bombs go off around the 4077th. Trapper and Margaret get trapped in the supply room and Frank ends up proposing to Margaret. -Aid Station Hawkeye, Margaret and Klinger go to the front lines to operate on patients. Meanwhile, Frank complains about the conditions. I would have added "Abyssinia, Henry" to my favorites list, but I didn't like the fact that Henry dies at the end. |

Hmmm.
In no particular order I would have to say... #57 There Is Nothing Like A Nurse - Hawkeye Trapper and Henry riffing on Frank's home movies is a great scene. #63 House Arrest - "Klinger it's four in the afternoon and you're still in a housecoat? Put on a dress! You never know who might be coming around!" Maclean Stevenson was brilliant. #61 Springtime - Klinger in a dress reading poetry. #72 Abbysinia, Henry - One last chance to see Henry Blake drunk. #55 Officer Of The Day - The pinstripe suit of all time...

"Adam's Ribs" is a classic. Especially the ending.
"Private Charles Lamb" is also great. "The General Flipped At Dawn" "Iron Guts Kelly" and of course, the episode that still gets me emotional to this day... "Abyssinia, Henry" The third season is the best, IMO. |

I stil don't see why the death of a fictional character is so shattering! Henry Blake's death at the end of the ep is vastly ovrrated by fans the world over. But season 3 was the finest season of MASH.

henry blake may be a fictional character, but i would bet anything, that quite a few soldiers died on the way home like he did, in any war. and that makes it a bit larger than fiction and closer to life from that point of view.

For me, even though he was a TV character, it's also the irony of it. I mean for three seasons we see this guy (Henry) who wants to go home and be with his wife and kids. And when he finally gets the chance, he's killed before he makes it. That's sad. Whether real or not. The thought of that is sad. Plus, Henry's wife gave birth while he was at M*A*S*H, so there's one kid of his he's never seen. |

to my amazement, i had never seen "there's nothing like a nurse" until the other day on the dvd. i loved frank's home movie. that was great. even better than radars. but i like the earlier episode with henry's family best.
adam's rib is probably the funniest. rainbow bridge is underrated i think. i feel the desire to save human lives, even when there is a chance your own life will be ended, is a great character trait. and they really gave that to trapper in this one. and that is what i liked most about it. |

I'm a little behind in watching my M*A*S*H DVD's as I just finished watching my Season 3 set tonight. I was surprised to discover I had never seen "Abyssinia, Henry" before. I guess I've always heard so much about this episode and have seen some clips from it before that I was under the impression I had previously seen it. It was interesting to watch it knowing how it ends. Now on to Season 4!
