Recurring Characters - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What's the deal with them? How does their pay work compared to regular characters? I'm not a fan of how one episode a person has a group of friends and then the next one, they have a different group of friends. I think that they should stick with the same characters, because it gets confusing. Why is it rare when the same reoccuring characters stick around for the whole run of a series? Please give me your opinion on what I have said. Thanks!

I want to know how many times must a character appear to be regarded as recurring?

I say at least three times (not in to be continued episodes).
