Okay, just watched this episode for the first time last night (DVD Vol 8) - and it's terrific! I love the scene when Desi gets confused over which language to speak, and totally cracks up. I'm surprised that scene didn't get edited out.
I like it when they make a complete balls up of these things. I may be slightly warped of course...Loved Lucy and Ethel as cleaning ladies too, and Lucy's desperate attempts to get away from the amorous dancer at the end. I'd say "That'll teach her!", but happily it won't...

This great 1991? movie with Antonio Banderas and Armand Assante, they play Cubans who have moved to the US and at one point get a guest shot on I Love Lucy and Desi jr plays your namesake with the film of Cuban Pals interspersed with the new scenes and it looks like they are actually playing a scene on I love Lucy, it is a very good film and a terrific idea.

Okay, watched this one tonight (at last one I actually remember having seen before!
) and I've got to say, yes it was funny - but what's the fuss all about? At the end of the day it's just another comedy drunk act, and we've all seen a million of them. Practically every sit-com has got a comedy drunk scene in it somewhere. Yes, the 'Do you pop out at parties' line is funny, but it's not really the best thing ever, is it?! Desi made me laugh when he was starting to crack up during the bit when he was standing next to her (yes, I know - sorry, but Desi giggling always makes me laugh!).So why do so many people think this is the best episode ever? |

This was one of the daftest episodes ever! (Although admittedly, yes, it was good). Not only does a bad wig and a nose stud render Lucy completely unrecognisable to her husband (Fred's got an excuse, since Ethel was wearing a veil) but then a truly bad beard made Fred completely unrecognisable not only to Ethel, but apparently also to large amounts of the studio audience, who all seemed to think that he was for real!
And how could Lucy not recognise Ricky when he came in? Who else looks at her with his hands on his hips like that?! ![]() Seriously though, given how easily Desi got the giggles in Cuban Pals, how on Earth did he manage to keep a straight face singing that song to Lucy, when she kept fainting and squeaking all over the place?!

I'd shout something at you in Spanish, but all I really know is what I learnt from Manolito Montoya... none of which is particularly relevant.
