Default How Good was "Sanford"??

I absolutely love "SANFORD AND SON" again after not seeing
this show for so many years since I was a kid. But I never
saw the "spin-off"(sequel?) "SANFORD".

For anyone who saw "SANFORD", honestly just how good was
it? (I've read all the plot summaries). Did it have any of the
great writing as the original?? Be curious to get everyone's
'report card" on this show I'm curious about.

(also did they use the same theme music?)

thanks!!

I didn't think "Sanford" was that good at all,not nearly as good as "Sanford and son".It really lacked something.

I thought "Sanford" was somewhat depressing. Lamont is gone, Fred and Donna are no longer together, Fred has a REAL heart attack, Woodrow is dead...Real funny stuff. NOT!

Sanford was FUNNIER. Only because the overweight Guy was much entertaining than stupid Lamont. The Dummy Jokes can get stale but Fat jokes can be more funny.

You are forgetting about Cal. You have to realized that it was a new era of Sanford and Son. Fred had a prettier girlfriend, a new and funny business partner, and Lamont was not missed by me.

Default CAL........NOT!

cal had zero talent. Who wants to see lamont replaced by a fat white guy who had to act dummer than grady.? Didn't he get stuck there by loosing his money or something...didn't he wear suspenders and boots all the time.? That story line pure junk. Redd Foxx is the only reason people watched it for as long as they did. If you are a Redd Foxx fan do enjoy it for he is the star. If you remember Sanford and Son like I did you won't even have it on tape !
People complain about lamonts lack of talent and acting skills. Didn't he dance and play drums on the show.? Let me see cal make a two step..or even attempt to do anything that shows talent. Lamont made facial expressions that made you laugh. Thats talent.

Forever Fernwood (1977) - Mac Slattery
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1976) - Mac Slattery 1976
The Texas Wheelers (1974) - Bud

name one of these shows that was a hit.?

Well Demond Wilson starred in Baby I'm Back in 1978 and the show was canceled after the first season. So it showed he contributed NOTHING to Sanford and Son. IT WAS ALL REDD FOXX.

I haven't seen Sanford so I can't comment on any of this, but Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman was a syndicated hit in 1976. It left the air in 1977 because Louise Lasser, who played Mary Hartman, left the show. So he was in one hit, I suppose.

I personally don't think just because you have no hits doesn't mean you are a bad actor...some good actors and actresses have never been in a hit show. Even Redd Foxx had show that bombed. *Shrug* I can't really comment on the Demond Wilson or the guy who played Cal on Sanford/

Obviously a lot of people thought he contributed more than Cal did, because Sanford didn't last very long. It took Lamont for the show to be successful.

Sanford not lasting long had nothing to do with Lamont not being there because in the last season of Sanford and Son, the show was not in the top 30

Going way, way off topic here, but since you brought up a short lived show Demond starred in. What about 'The New Odd Couple'. Can't remember if Demond was playing the Felix like character or if he was like the Oscar character. Ron Glass (?) was in it, too. TNOC was short lived too, right? Don't ask me where I saw the show at, but I remember seeing an ep of the series. It's been years and years ago though. All I can remember is the guys won a car or got a car and Ron Glass' character didn't want to drive the car at all, but Demond's character wanted to drive it. I think they had to get up early in the morning (every morning) to move the car off the street. I think at the end of the ep, they sold the car. I'm prob. describing the ep all wrong. Unfortunately, I can't find an ep guide for the show.

I know I went way off topic, but I'd like to state that I think Sanford and Son was it. It was the tops, I doubt many remember any of the shows Redd or Demond did after Sanford and Son ended. Only a select few will remember the shows, but I doubt many people just remember Sanford and Son and nothing else. jmo

Default Lamont Haters?

I never knew Lamont was so loathed. I liked his character. He was a good straight man to Red Foxx. To answer the question, Sanford had some chuckles, but it was nowhere near the laughfest that was Sanford AND SON.

Sanford would have as many laughs as Sanford and Son if it was on the air for 5 years like S&S
