Sadly very little of this still exists. As you probably know since you're a fan of the genre, a great deal of British TV was deleted in the sixties/early seventies, because it was assumed nobody would want to watch the same thing twice, and that there wouldn't be the space to keep it all. More has merely deteriorated over time, with nobody to look after it. There is a huge move afoot now to recover what can be recovered, by searching abroad for shows sold there, and in private collections for items that missed the cull, but for the most part a hell of a lot of stuff is gone for good. This includes most of the Cook and Moore stuff that was done on film, rather than tape in the studio, and a lot of the sixties Oxbridge stuff. Nobody is sure how much of Do Not Adjust Your Set still remains, and The Complete And Utter History Of Britain, Palin and Jones' pre-Python series, seems to be gone almost in its entirety. It's terribly sad.

Ever hear of Top Of The Pops, EricIdleFan? British show showcasing current chart music, which has been running since 1964? Well it has a sister show now, TOTP2, which is all old performances from the vaults. Last week it had Eric on singing Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, a performance recorded in September 1991. He'd released it as a single following its use on a radio show as a jingle. Anyways, he's on stage with a band, and the pianist falls of fstage and the guitarist breaks his guitar, and gantry collapses - all very nicely orchestrated! They shoot Eric in the mouth with a soda siphon so he can't say the sh*t line, and then he leads the band on a rampage round the studio, with scenery collapsing here and there. He winds up throwing a custard pie at the floor manager who's telling him it's a wrap. Very well done, though they pretty close to squashing some of the teenage audience with the collapsing scenery.

Sort of thing to look for on the Net as video clips. Might well be out there somewhere.
