Post Does anyone know why Charlotte Rae left the show in '86?

Why did Cloris Leachman replace here then?

i heard that she thought that mrs. g shouldn't be around w/the girls anymore because they none of them were at eastland anymore (well, tootie had just graduated, nat had graduated like a year before, and blair and jo had graduated three years before [?]) and they didnt need a motherly character anymore because they were almost all adults
*then why do they have beverly ann? just another question for every1...

------------------
Pippa: Won't you tell me now?
Blair: Tomorrow.
Jo: Rick...
Pippa: Rick?
Jo/Nat/Blair: Tomorrow, Pippa!

Natalie: A flashback within a flashback... I'm so brilliant it scares me!
Natalie: You thought she was the delivery boy? I was gonna ask her to the fall dance before I knew! [from my favorite ep, New girl part 1]
Jo: you're born, you grow, you die, hey that's life.

Talking

Ok, I read this in a article about it off some website here is the basic story...
Charlotte told the cast and crew of FOL that season 7 woudl be her last season, by then they were all wondering why? did we do soemthing wrong? (she did not tell them why she just said that season 7 woudl be her last) and so they asked her why and she said becuase they were starting to cast her less and less since the girls did not NEED her anymore and she seemed that she didnt need to be their main confidant anymore becuase they coudl confide in eachother... So they said ok! We will pep up the show a little more for your last season.. Therefore, Over Our Heads, A new upbeat song, and george and andy... They did not plan for the girls to have somebody else there, it was just going to be the girls, possibly george and andy and that's it, by then they realized the house woudl probably fall apart, ya know without a "boss" around to help them get things organized, and plus it wasn't the GIRLS' house... it was edna's... thus they needed a new person so they went to charlotte and asked her if their was anybody she woudl recomend having for a replacement... charlotte was kind of offended I mean they basically said ok your leaving who cares got any suggestions for a replacement.. hehe (a kiss off if you ask me...) but she said, "the main reason for my leaving was to show that the girls are grown up and can run a house hold by themselves... they don't need me around to tell them to pick up their clothes, make their beds, do their homework, no sex, no drugs, no drinking and driving and all those other things mothers say! So why have another figure head around for it!" The point was so that they coudl get an adult perspective on things... like beverly ann helping tootie decide not to have sex... adopting andy (this article came out before nat had sex but she helped nat with that too a little) And yes the girls did confide in eachother more than they confided in beverly ann but they thought she needed to be there for the show to stay together and they didnt want to call the show quits while it still had some fire to it... they didnt want to loose hope in still having a perfect show as before and so charlotte brought good friend cloris leachman in for the producers to see and they cast her on the spot since she knew the show so well becuase she watched virtually every episode beucase charlotte was in it as well as charlotte watched virtually every episode of the mary tyler moore show and phyllis but mrs. g was glad that if somebody had to take her spot it was cloris... VEI cloris was brought onto the show and charlotte left with complete pride and never had one ounce of regrette for being on the facts of life becuase it brought her most of her fame and fortune...
That is basically what the article said about this subject and it came out in the end of the 8th season

------------------
jo: mrs. g gone on ahead I KNOW i can fix the problem
MRs. G: jo only twice in my life have i spoke in an arbitrary manner, once when my ex husband morgaged our home to pay the bookee, and now, GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE OR I'LL BEAT YOU WITH MY FRYING PAN!!!

Jo: Woaw Nat!! (grabs blairs palm tree from nat) Nice Girls Don't Throw Trees!!!

blair: now jo i know we usually dont agree but that was a scuzy thing for your mother to do!
tootie: wahts so scuzy about it!?!? dont you read the national enquirer, some of the best people are Shacking up!!
mrs. g: TOOTIE!!! im surrounded by x-rated kids!!!

Seven seasons is highly respectable to develop a character. I mean, she was nominated for an Emmy!!!

One thing about Charlotte Rae is now she's semi-retired. I wish I could just quit school. Summer will be here. My mom actually just said that to me.

Peter: Stop at Move 1 Space. $750+One Spin or Big Screen TV.
Lori: I'll have $750 and a spin.
Peter: You got it.
Lori: I'm passin it to Cathy.

(Scene from a PYL episode with the "Famous Spin Battle of Cathy & Lori" in '84)

Me TOO!!!! Also, I kinda formed this tradition this year...at lunch..i always sing, " I love PAWIS IN THE SPWIIIINNNNNGGGG TIME!!" lol....I sing the whole thign that MRs. G does though...lol..that as nice....I'm sure you needed to know that...

Anyway, whenever they announce stuff over the intercom at school, if it's 8th hour, which is chorus for us, and everyone is talking, I go, " QUUUUUIIIIIIIIEEEEEEET!" I freak everyone out...but they USED TO listen to me..until I did it too many times...now they don't...I'll have to say , " GIIIIIIIRRRRRLLLS!" cause we only have one guy in our chorus anyway...
