Exclamation HELP! Guest Star's Name

Please help me find the name of a S&S guest star!

He's an accomplished actor and director, beloved and well respected, a mentor to such modern actors as Lawrence Fishburne. He would be in his late '70's or early 80's, and is still alive to my knowledge.

He is African-American, short to medium height, with very traditional African features, and a deep, regal voice. He's gay, but only slightly "effete" in performance, appearing very erudite and dignified.

He guested as a rival for Fred's girlfriend's hand. The two gags I remember are lifting a chair by the leg with one hand, and allowing a wine to "breeeeeeeeeeathe."

Does anyone know the gentleman's name? Thanks for the help!

Roscoe Lee Brown has since passed away. He also appeared on a Cosby show episode . The S & S episode where he and fred were fighting for Donnas attention was hilarious.

Well, I could have sworn that he passed away a few years ago. Sometimes people appear in movies before their deaths and the movie is released a few years later.

True, but there is no listing of a death date on the site. Plus, there are a couple of projects he has been working on in the past couple of years. Sadly, he's one of the only "oldtimers" from S&S that is still alive.

I'm glad to hear that Roscoe Lee Brown is still alive. I met him many moons ago in New York and he was using his Rap on me......... I turned him down though..... By the looks of it he's not gay.

That's so cool you met him. Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but Roscoe was on All in the Family for a few eps, right? The main one I'm thinking of is when Archie's in the hospital. This guy (who he can't see because of a curtain or something like that is blocking his vision) the guy has a French accent and Archie gets a surprise when he actually sees the guy and sees that he's a black guy. That was Roscoe, right?

That's right Jenny, that was Roscoe as Mr Duvall, I think it was on "All in the Family." On commenting on what made Archie's aching back suddenly get better and make him want to leave the hospital, Roscoe said "It was that old black magic." lol

As a sidenote, Roscoe did the narration on the 1977 "Story of Star Wars" LP, as well as appearing on many other tv and film projects.

And also he played the guy from Larchmont on All In The Family where Archie gets stuck in the elevator with him,the janitor and his pregnant wife, and the nervous woman. I liked it when the lights briefly go out and he says "Boo" to Archie, and then tells him "What's the matter, Bunker, afraid to face the future???"

It is indeed good to hear he is alive, I must have mistaken him for another actor. He is a classic charactor actor and yes he is one of the only veteran actors still alive , having recently lost Lawanda Page.

Default Two Different People

Roscoe Lee Brown played Osgood. The man who was after Donna. Another actor played..."Lou Turner" who also wanted Donna. He owned a liquor store and was supposed to be Fred's competiton in the Senior Olympics!!

Yes I have. If you work in NYC you see stars walking down the street. I met Roscoe in the early 80's in a place called the Adams Apple here in NYC. I was having fun with my friends and we were dancing at the time (upstairs). Little did I know Roscoe was checking me out (He was having a drink at the bar). Someone came up to me and asked me if I ever saw this man on TV? When I looked to see who they were referring to it was Roscoe. ( I'm going to post a picture of him if I find one.) I looked at Roscoe and immediately knew who he was because as someone mentioned he is a character actor. It was really funny. (I don't want to get into the the details of him rapping to me) but, he is a very nice man and a gentleman.
