Default Debbie Reynolds On "Wings"

So what did everyone think of Debbie Reynolds' guest spot on "Wings"?

I thought that she was very funny as Mrs. Chappel....and she was a "natural" as Helen's mother....short, blonde and spunky!

When some shows use guest stars it can sometimes be awkward...the guest stars don't really fit into the format of the show, or they don't have any chemistry with the regulars.

However, I have found that "Wings" makes excellent use of guest stars. Many times there is a real-life tie-in with one of the cast members (Tyne Daly as Mimsy, John Ritter as Casey's husband, etc.), and the guests usually work with the regulars very well.

Just one MORE thing that "Wings" did right!

yeah, I liked Debbie Reynolds as Helen's mom. I thought she fit in very well with the cast, and was a good choice to play Helen's mom.

and wait, did you say that John Ritter played Casey's husband on Wings?
...are John Ritter and Amy Yasbeck (that's her name, right?) married in real life.. or something? because her and John Ritter were in the "Problem Child" movies togeter (haha! me and my brother used to love those movies when we were younger. lol), and then the two of them played an expecting couple on an episode of the Cosby show once.......
hmmm.....

Yes Amy and John Ritter are married in real life. They got married in 1999.

I also wanted to mention that touching scene between Helen and her mom toward the end of the episode....

That COULD have been sticky and maudlin, but Crystal and Debbie handled it beautifully....They both did a fine and realistic job of acting in that scene!

I forgot to mention something else about that episode that I found very funny....The "Eating Competiton" between Brian and Lowell. The sight of them sitting there, all bloated and stuffed with chicken wing sauce smeared all over their mouths like a couple of little kids was hilarious....

...and it made me realize something....That was one of the few story lines that actually paired off Brian and Lowell.
Think about it...those two characters really haven't had that many situations together. We've seen stories about Lowell and Joe, Lowell and Roy, Lowell and Antonio, Lowell and Faye and Lowell and Helen, but really nothing with Lowell and Brian....It was a nice change.
