Ok, does anyone realize that Diane always tells the same story when she talks to someone in French (the Les Mis thread got me thinking about this). They always cut to her as she's finishing the story and she says "Et j'ai dit, 'Si vous parlez lentement, je peux vous comprendre.'" (Translation: "And I said, "If you speak slowly, I can understand you.") She says it at least twice. Once in "Any Friend of Diane's" and once when she goes out w/ Sam and his date. I forget the episode, but the three of them go to a restaurant and Sam ends up sitting by himself. I noticed it the other day and thought it was weird. . . (Not that Diane isn't the type to repeat a story
)

lol The writers just thought of a phrase in French that diane could say and figured nobody would know the difference, although your right about Diane not having any problem repeating a story.
I love it though when she over analyzes things! When she starts talking and you know half the people have tuned her out already lol i don't know I find it amusing!! Hey NORM: this pic is a special wallpaper tribute to u guessed it Norman!! |

I love that too, but only b/c it happens to me so often--misery loves company
Do you think you'd like Diane if you knew her in real life? I can't decide.

Oh I would adore Diane! I'd probably feed her ego though! jeje You know who I don't think I would like in real life? Cliff....lol and I would probably be afraid of Carla!

Here's my dilemma about Diane. If she were real, you could have incredible conversations with her about literature, music, etc. However, if you didn't like something that she did, I'm convinced she would think you were closed-minded. I feel like sometimes she badgered Sam for that (but, then again, he actually WAS closed-minded). I wouldn't like Cliff either b/c his incorrect info would bother me (although I love the one about DNA). My reaction to Carla I think would be a lot like Diane's in the first season: I'd laugh at her jokes, but she'd frighten me just a little.

Hmm... That's probably why I would get along with her though! I'd be in awe of her and would not disagree with anything she did. lol, I would probably drool over Sam, Ted Danson is the most gorgeous man ever to walk this earth!!! lol In My Humble Opinion...hehe!! Ben Afflect is right after him though!! Cliff I wouldn't be able to stand, and probably like Diane correct him any chance I could...and then I would just get annoyed.
The thing I liked about Sam Malone is that yes he wasn't the smartest person in the entire world, but he was so incredibly sweet. Like the time he read "War and Peace" just so he could prove to everyone that he could be as intellectual as Sumner. If a guy ever read War and Peace for me, and trust me I've read it, I would die! |

You are so right! Anyone who would brave Tolstoy for me would make me totally fall in love. He was seriously the most depressed man ever and of course, he always has to include an autobiographical character in his novels. Ted is hot--but I was so scandalized when he told Carla he wore a tupee. It's one thing to know that he does (it was pretty obvious) but for him to say that was too much.

When I see that episode I'm always like "Please, Sam, don't do it!" I have to realize that talking to the TV doesn't work.

I know!!! lol i talk to the tv all the time while watching cheers, im like "don't do it please no" or "haha they saw you!" or lol whatever the situation is I react to it. whats great though that since there are so many characters around usually there will be one that reacts the way that I do. Usually in the first 5 seasons it was diane, then in the later seasons for some reason when it came to dealing with sammy Carla and I had the same reactions.

Yeah, it gets to be scary when you speak in harmony w/ the characters. I started doing that w/ Lilith and then it was time to take a long break from Cheers. (Long = a week).
